“Um?” she said, her voice flying off into an octave to make a soprano green with envy. “Made you… very mad, apparently.”

“Furious. Having all that fun without me? I think you owe me a very serious apology.”

“And I’m guessing the innovative cocktail wasn’t apology enough.”

Dammit, she was so cute, I wanted to fuck her senseless. I rested my forehead against hers. “You know, you scared me a lot.”

“I’m aware I have that effect on people.”

I laughed. “Sure thing, Your Highness. But you did. I’ve been more and more scared something awful was happening with you… I’m glad you’re okay.”

She blushed again, looking away. “Sorry for scaring you. It’s just… honestly, I scare myself too sometimes.”

“At least for one night, just let yourself have what you want.” I brushed her hair back out of her face. “And I’ve heard I’m very distracting for you.”

She bit her lip through a wild smile. “Only in that I’m just too… inspired by the muse. Song verses. You know how it is.”

“You and your sassy little mouth. You’re lucky I’m into it.”

“Uh, yeah, trust me, I agree. I don’t know why you are. Aren’t I annoying?”

I laughed. “Unbearably. What am I going to do with you?”

“Give me another embarrassing nickname, if precedent is anything to go by…”

“Maybe later. For right now,” I said, “I’d like to kiss you.”

“Holy fucking shit.” She pushed out a breath. “Please pretend I didn’t just say that. Let’s start over with that and I’ll have a cooler response prepared.”

I bit my lip. “I’d like to kiss you.”

“Holy shit. No, I. Oh, god.” She put a hand over her face, and I laughed, pulling it away.

“Is that a yes?”

“Has literallyanyoneever said no to that?” She was blushing all the way down to her neck again, and I waslovingseeing that.

“That’s not really an answer, either.”

“Oh my god. Yes, of course it is! I’ve been wanting to kiss you ever since the first time youlookedat me with thatthingyou do with your eyes where it’s just like youlookand suddenly everything else is gone, and I’ve been thinking about—”

As cute as she was when she rambled, I kissed her. She let out a muffled noise against my lips, her hands flying up, and I held the kiss, her lips firm in surprise, until she yielded with the sweetest noise, her hand slipping to my side. I shifted on top of her, moving my lips slowly with hers, reveling in the feeling of her tiny, shaky movements underneath me, the desperate noises she made.

“Is this okay?” I said against her lips, and she murmured dreamily,

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever felt.”

I smiled, my teeth touching her lips as I did. “I have better things planned for you to feel.”

“That hardly seems possible, but I guess anything is possible when you set your mind to it,” she said, broken up between kisses as I laughed more and more. “And you clearly like to set your mind to something. I mean, you’re an ambitious person. I think that’s attractive, I mean. That you set your mind to something—”

“Shh.”

“Okay. Jesus. I’m really nervous.”

“Oh, but you weren’t when you were masturbating in my bathroom?”

She whimpered. “Helena.”
