He kissed her again, gentler this time. “Then we’ll make it work. Somehow.”
She gazed into his eyes. “Promise?”
“Promise.”
“I’ll hold you to that.”
A sudden voice shouted from below, shattering the moment. “Dinner is ready!”
Ruby laughed and Evan shook his head in mock-annoyance.
“Damn that woman’s timing,” he said. “We should just ignore her. Stay here.”
“And have them all gossiping about why we’re missing dinner? I don’t think so.” She kissed him. “And besides, there’s alwaysafterdinner isn’t there?”
Evan grinned, that charming, mischievous smile that had first drew her to him. “Aye. And the rest of the night besides.”
Ruby raised an eyebrow. “I’ll hold you to that too.”
