Shay chuckled and held her tight.“Come on baby, let’s go home.”

Chapter Three

Char yanked the frontdoor open and rushed outside as soon as the car stopped. She ran over to Kelly and hugged her tight.“Oh my God, Kelly!I never should have called you in on this.Olivia has too long of a reach.”

Kelly stepped back a little and wrapped her hands around Char’s face. She gazed into her eyes and saw the tears there.“Char, stop.Listen to me.I’m glad you called me.I’m glad I could help you.I wouldn’t have missed that for anything, you hear me?Do you understand what I’m saying here? You were the sister I never had growing up.We shared everything, our hopes and dreams and everything in between. This isn’t your fault and it isn’t Rosie’s either. This is all on your grandmother’s shoulders and if I know Shay, he’s already got a plan in mind that will bring her and your uncle Victor down to their knees.”

Finally,Char stepped back and swiped at her eyes.

Kelly sighed and told her, “I don’t regret a thing I did.Ty Regis thinks that he can just do whatever he wants.Like he has the right to abuse people. He did so much damage and no telling what else he has done to young girls in the past.I showed him that consequences do exist and it was satisfying to know that a woman had taught him the rules. But I didn’t kill him and that’s what I’m holding onto right now.”

“This won’t stand,” Comanche stated with a growl.

Chase nodded.“We will testify that you left with us and Ty was alive when we left.”

Kelly looked over at them. Her buds and brothers.“No, I don’t want you involved. They don’t have you on video and I don’t want you to be in a cell next to me.They will try to use you against me.”She stepped closer to them.“Do you hear me?”

Both men looked very unhappy as they gave no reply.

Char reached over and gently took her hand in hers to lead her inside.

Behind them, Pappy, Shay, Dewy, Chase and Comanche, all watched them go in.None of them looked happy.

A half hour later...

Finally, in the shower...Kelly broke down. She sat under the shower spray with her knees up to her chest and sobbed. The water poured down and she just kept crying.Reaching down, she covered her belly with her hand. Her whole world had turned upside down and she wasn’t sure she could cope with what had happened.

No, she didn’t regret helping her friend, she just didn’t want to give birth to her child in prison. If Shay and the others couldn’t find the real killer, the law wouldn’t have a choice, she would go to prison for a crime she didn’t commit. There were many in prison that hadn’t done the crime, she just did not want to be in that count.

Shay found her still sitting in the shower as she cried. He shut the water off and helped her to her feet.He gathered her up in his arms and laid her head on his shoulder. Then he quietly spoke to her, “Let’s dry you off first. Then can I get you anything?”

“You,” she replied.“You can give me all of you.”

“But you’re exhausted.You—”

Kelly placed her hand over his mouth.“I need something that only you can give me.”
