Gosh.
This kid.
I negotiated it down to just a few varieties. And she helped me put them on a cute little plate. Then I suggested maybe some fruits and vegetables.
“Oh, Mommy likes ham sandwiches!”she exclaimed.
I nodded.“Nice choice.”I lifted her off the counter and set her down.“Mustard?”
Dani looked at me like I'd just said the worst possible word ever.“No way.Mustard makes her barf.”
I took her hand.“Good to know.”
When we turned around—two sets of very intrigued, very male eyes were staring at us.“What are you guys doing?”I questioned why they were just standing there, doing nothing.“Is Nick looking after all those babies by himself?”
They looked at each other and then walked out.
“You're bossy, too,” Dani said with an enormous grin on her face.“I like it.”
Then we both laughed.
And then Dani made her mommy the best ham sandwich ever.
Filled with more love than any sandwich.
Ever.
With absolutely no mustard.

Needless to say, Dani's mommy was very grateful for her sandwich. One glance at it easily told her that Dani had made it all by herself.
Giselle was so touched that she instantly burst into tears.
Poor Giselle.
Somehow, she was able to eat something before Dani snuggled into her—and they fell fast asleep.Eve had already put the twins to bed.
Stefan and Nick were putting the other kids down for a nap.
So, I changed. And then Eve and I went downstairs to start lunch. All I had for breakfast were a couple of cookies and a handful of grapes. And a piece of ham while Dani was making the sandwich.
When we stepped into the kitchen, though—Carlo was there. He looked up from what he was doing at the counter. His eyes locked on Eve.
And hers locked on his.
Whoa.
The awkward tension in here was palpable.
“You and I need to have a chat,” he said to Eve.Then he jerked his head.“Let's go.We can chat in Stefan’s office.”
Eve's back straightened, and she crossed her arms.“Now is not the time for that.”
He moved away from the counter and walked up to her.“Now's the perfect fucking time for—” he bent over, “that.”
