“Avery, I’m going that way anyway. It’s not a problem.Call it a peace offering for my behaviour earlier.”

She studies him and then relents with a shrug.

I guess that’s as good as it’s going to get. We see them all out, and Jessica asks them to let her know when they’re home safely. It’s her love language, one of the many things I adore about her.

Jessica helps me tidy up the kitchen as Caleb sorts out Aspen. When she’s done her business and is back indoors, he gives her a treat, and she settles in her bed.

“Finally,” he says, setting the alarm and turning to Jessica. “Now,are you going to show us what you purchased?” His eyesrake down the lengthof her body and causeher to flushunder his appraisal.

“I think it’s only right you do a little show and tell after all your meddling with Mason and Avery,” I add, cocking a brow.

She blows out a breath, her embarrassment evident. “That kind of backfired,” she replies. “I’ve never seen Mase provoked as much as he is with Avery. And he rarely dislikes anyone.”

I laugh, as does Caleb. “I think you’ll find that’s just sexual tension,” I say.

“Maybe, I don’t know. He really upset Avery, but she tried to hide it. I know something’s happened between them, but whatever it is, she’s keeping it quiet.”

“She’ll talk when she’s ready, as will he, I have no doubt,” I reply.

“Hmm, maybe.”

Caleb growls. “Stop worrying about them and get your sexy arse upstairs.”

He swats her arse, and she giggles, running up the stairs with Caleb and me hot on her heels.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

JESSICA

I bristle in the limousine the girls insisted on hiring for the night. They might be more accustomed to this mode of transport, but me, not so much.

“Are you going to tell me where we’re going?” I ask again for what feels like the twentieth time.

Avery taps the side of her nose. “That’s for us to know and you to find out,” she replies, refilling my champagne glass.

I roll my eyes but smile. I can’t even be mad about the two of them keeping it a secret. If I had my way, we’d have just gone out for afternoon tea. Which I did already, in fact, do with Maggie. She’s been a rock since I moved in with the guys, and I adore her as much as I did my nan.

I’m already anticipating shots and dancing, if our attire is anything to go by. It shouts club vibes, and I secretly pray it’s not a strip club. I doubt either Caleb or Noah would take too kindly to that, but what can I say? I love how possessive they are of me.

The limo pulls to a stop, and I realise that must mean we’re here. I look out of the tinted windows and recognise where we are.

My jaw drops. “You brought me to Formidable,” I say. Okay, I did not see that coming.

“Yeah, I spoke to Octavia. She’s reserved a section in the main bar VIP area where she’s going to join us. Don’t worry we won’t be partaking in any kinky antics. Unless you want to give this a whirl,” Avery motions to herself, wiggling her eyebrows.

I shake my head. “Not at the expense of the men I love,” I retort. Even though I know she’s likely only joking, I say it anyway.

She throws her head back and laughs. “Your face was priceless. It’s okay, Jess, I know you only have eyes for two men and two dicks.”

Lily shakes her head. “She’s playing.”

Avery looks affronted. “Are you trying to imply I couldn’t have my wicked way with Jessica if I wanted to?”

“That’s not something I can answer,” Lily replies, looking between us.

Avery smirks but chooses to forgo replying. “Anyway, let’s go have some fun. You never know, I might find myself a suitable date for the wedding,” she says.

“You wouldn’t,” Lily replies incredulously.
