Her agonized use of my name causes me to chuckle as she grinds against my cock, desperate for release. With a huff she shifts off my lap, tearing off her gym leggings before returning to my lap.

As she slides my cock home, she bites hard on her lower lip, pleasure creasing her expression as she groans out loud.

“Fuck.”

My hand reaches behind her head, and I bunch my fist in her hair, thrusting up gently; no need to interfere with the baby.

“Oh, fuck.”

She hisses as her clit drags against my shaft and my thumb presses down on it, her breath catching as I push in deeper, manipulating her like a freaking rag doll.

I take what I need, careful not to hurt her, and as she clenches on my cock and rains her honey down, I shoot hard inside her, my heart beating like a freaking bass drum. Her primal scream is enough to revive my throbbing cock for round number two, as my phone vibrates on the table beside the couch, causing me to groan inside. Already!

She falls, limp, all the strength deserting her, and I shift, my arms locking around her as I carefully lift her into my arms.

“Time to sleep, baby.”

I kiss her soft lips and carry her upstairs, taking the short walk to our bedroom, placing her carefully on the pristinely made-up bed.

She curls into a ball and her breathing is even, and as I drape the cover over my wife, my mood darkens.

It’s time to go to work.

CHAPTER 39

ASPEN

Iwake to an empty house. That is not unusual.

Blade works hard, and he works a lot. Now I understand why the Reaper’s favorite place is the bar. It’s the one place they can let off steam and rid their minds of the carnage their life brings on repeat.

Luckily for me, Blade prefers to rid his demons inside me, and I’m a willing participant.

Groaning, I head to the bathroom yet again to pee. The downside of pregnancy, for sure, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

My hand smooths over my swollen belly as I whisper to our baby.

“Not long now, little one. I can’t wait to meet you.”

My heart bursts with emotion as I imagine our life together. One baby will undoubtedly turn into two, then three, possibly four. There is no doubt in my mind about that.

I finish up and take a shower, wondering how long Blade will be gone this time. Sometimes it’s days, and they are the missions I hate the most. It’s lucky I’m not alone in waiting and as I drag on a loose-fitting dress, I tie my hair in a sleek ponytail and head off to find that damn fried chicken I’m addicted to.

It’s another beautiful day. The sun is high, beating warmth on my skin, and the birds are singing in the trees.

I smile as Britney heads my way in a gentle jog, revealing she’s working out, and she slows as she draws near.

“Hey, Aspen.”

She chugs from her water bottle. “I sure hope I look as good as you when I’m eight months down the line.”

She winks. “But not just yet. I’m having far too much fun to walk home from this party.”

Britney loves this life too much and is a favorite among the Reapers for her sass and humor. She’s also incredibly gorgeous, and I wonder what will happen in her future. She appears in no hurry to leave, and I don’t blame her, really, but surely she wants more than this. No matter how tempting more is around here.

“I’ve got to do another circuit, otherwise I’d stop to chat.” She pauses and adds, “Have you heard from Sunday?”

My smile drops, and I don’t miss the anxiety in her expression.
