Amara felt her heart pounding loudly as she instinctively closed her eyes expecting him to put his lips on hers. She waited and waited. But the kiss she eagerly anticipated didn’t come.

Kaelith looked at her, with his toe raised and an arrogant smirk on his lips.“Expecting me to kiss you goodbye?” He licked his lips teasingly.

Amara flushed, embarrassed and panicked, she quickly pulled away and pushed herself against the door, her heart beating at the speed of miles per second.“N-No!”

“Then why did you close your eyes?”

“I-I was just…”

“Keep lying to yourself, little one.”

“I just…don’t want complications.”

“Complications are inevitable when the heart speaks a language too complex for words,” Kaelith spoke. His eyes were on her as he took a step back and then another.

“Have a good night.I’llsee you tomorrow.” He winked at her before turning around and walking away.

Amara stood there. Utterly speechless and confused. Pounding heart and roaring blood in her veins. The butterflies in her stomach and tingles on the side of her lips, right where Kaelith touched her.

Swallowing hard, she quickly opened the door and walked in before closing it and pressing her back against it. My heart beating so fast. She was so engrossed in her turmoil of thoughts that when she felt eyes on her, she lifted her head only to gasp as her eyes widened.

There stood in the middle of the living room Rafael—with an angry pissed off expression on his face.

CHAPTER 29

Amara swallowed hard, heart racing.

The look on Rafael’s face screamed with utter rage as he gritted his teeth. The softness in his eyes was replaced with hard volatile emotions.

Rafael's face contorted with anger, his brow furrowing deeply, and his eyes narrowing into an intense glare. His jaw tightened, and the muscles in his cheeks tensed.

“Where were you?” As he asked, his voice was sharp, each word punctuated with the underlying fury that simmered beneath the surface. The lines on his forehead became more pronounced, and his nostrils flared subtly with each controlled breath, signalling the brewing storm within.

Amara swallowed hard, clenching her fists as her lips wobbled. She had no answer to give him. Instead, she lowered her head in shame.“I-I was…out.”

Rafael thundered taking a threatening step towards her as she unconsciously backed against the door.“With whom?”

Rafael paced, frustration evident. Amara shook her head. The lie instantly dripped on her tongue.

“No-no one.”

Rafael laughed humorlessly.“Now you know how to lie, huh? To your fucking husband?” Amara stilled against the door and struggled to find words; her gaze fixed on the floor.

She bit her lips hard closing her eyes as her uneven breathing ragged. Shame and embarrassment wrapped around her and she desperately shook her head.“I…I am sorry.”

Rafael scoffed, his frustration escalating.

“Sorry? Sorry for what? For how many things? Tell me. For lying to me? For leaving the apartment when I strictly said not to? Or for cheating on me?” Amara’ s head immediately snappedupathimashereyeswidenedandshedesperatelytookastepforward.Thetears gathered at the rims of her terrorized eyes.

“No! I…I did not cheat on you! I swear!” Her voice rose in panic. Rafael read her. So, fucking easy to read.“Is that so? You did not? Then what will you call this? Sneaking behind my back to meet my brother? To spend the whole day with him walking hand in hand knowing you have a husband.”

Amara defensively shoots back.“I was rotting in here. Kaelith just took me out for a stroll.”

“Hand in hand?”
