“Amara?” Amara’s eyes widened in shock as she heard her name, and she turned around to see Anna with a smile by the second elevator.

However, this wasn’t what startledher.

Amara’s face paled and their legs started trembling as her eyes moved over Anna’s shoulder to the eyes that now pierced through her. An unreadable expression gleamed in those eyesas they stared back at her with disbelief and disappointment with a subtle hint of anger.

“Rafael?” Amara mumbled with fear lacing her voice.

CHAPTER 37

“Amara! What a surprise?!” Anna grabbed Amara by the hand and pulled her in a hug pushing past Rafael who glared at Amara. There was a hidden promise in his eyes that made Amara want to run for hills.

Rafael gave her his infamous cold glare as Anna obliviously pulled Amara in.

Amara noticed another presence stepping out of the elevator. Her eyes widened for a fraction of a second before she felt a chill running down her spine.

Abigail smirked.“Amara. Long time no see.” His politeness seemed like a mockery as Amara managed a small smile which further pissed Rafael who groaned in distaste and let out a frustrated sigh.

Amara felt disgust ripping through her skin as Abigail looked suggestively at her. But that’s not what she was worried about. Rafael scared her more.

“Let’s go in,” Rafael mumbled without taking his eyes off her. She nodded and Anna followed them. The living room was chilling and Amara realized how much she suddenly missed the warmth Kaelith’s home provided her.

Shruggingthethoughtsaway, shequicklyrushedtothekitchentobringsomesnacks.Thatwas not the only reason to go there, she needed to calm herself. She unconsciously rubbed the back of her neck and held the counter taking deep breaths.

Anna sat on the couch crossing her long legs as the leather skirt rode up her thighs. Amara felt immediately intimidated by the way she looked. So perfect and beautiful.

Amara then looked down at her own clothes, a dull grey dress, wrinkled and filled with paint. She felt underdressed in her own home.

“How are you know? Rafael said you were doing good.” Anna asked looking over her shoulder with a smile. Amara managed another smile with shaking lips.

“I am doing good. How are you?” She mumbled lowly feeling Rafael and Abigail’ s penetrating gazes. Both held two different motives yet the same promise of hurt and pain.

“Ah, wish I could say the same. Life’s been a bitch to me.” Anna dreamily sighed thanking Amara as the latter brought glasses of berry juice. Rafael clenched his jaw as Amra avoided his eyes.“No money, no honey.”

Anna seemed oblivious to the tension between the couple as she opened her leather jacket and threw it on the couch.

Amara sat on the corner of the couch with her hands clasped on her lap. Like a scared little puppy.

Abigail observed her with a slight smirk. Too innocent and pure. The innocence he’d soon taint. He thought and giggled at the thought and sipped on the juice.

“Says the woman with a multi-billion company.” Abigail interrupted earning a glare from Anna. “Don’t complain now. You’ve rejected six men in past two weeks.”

Anna rolled her eyes.

“Why do you care if I date or not? Do you want to date me? That’s why you’re being so nosy?” She asked with a smirk. Abigail scoffed, and his eyes darted towards Amara.

“You’re not my type.” He said shrugging his shoulders.

“Then what is your type?” Anna mumbled with a sass in her tone. Amara timidly fidgeted with her fingers hoping for Rafael not to look so scary.

She knew he’ d punish her once his friends were out. She dreaded that moment. So, she just prayed that he’d forget everything and would let her be for the night. Amara was so engrossed in her own thoughts that she failed to notice Abigail’s mischievous gaze.

“Something… I can break easily.” He completed licking his lips. Amara sensed his eyes and looked at him. There was something in his eyes that made her uneasy. She swallowed hard taking her eyes off him and lowering her head to the floor.

Anna choked on her drink and snapped her head at Abigail.“That’s dark. Anyways, you don’t have to cook anything, Amara. We just ate out.”

Amara stilled and nodded.

“I heard Kaelith also rented a penthouse in this building,” Anna said suddenly. Amara stiffened. Her eyes automatically turned to Rafael who had an unreadable expression on his face.
