Amara flinched at her thoughts suddenly feeling her heart racing wildly.

He didn’t love her. And he would never. And it wasn’t like she loved him either. He was just helping her.

She was that abandoned pup. No home. No safe place.

Her thoughts became wild, a whirlwind of paranoia and shattered emotions.

A lone tear escaped her eye, slowly following the path of her temple and landing softly at her side. Words rang continuously in her ears, and her throat clogged.

She hoped this pain would go away. The pain of abandonment. The agony of loneliness. She reminded herself again and again. This was temporary. She needed to think something before she ended up hurting herself more.

But what about the bubbling sentiments? How would she control them? Turning on her side as pressed her face into the pillow and cried. For everything. For her memories, for her past, for Rafael, for her marriage….and herself.

Amara rolled on the other side with a groan. Her whole body was stiff and next was aching.

The curtains were still draped but Amara knew it was already morning by the way the room was brightened. The grey curtains did minimal to block the light.

With another lazy groan, she lifted the blanket off her and opened her eyes with difficulty. She didn’t realize when she fell asleep last night or when she stopped crying, but she suddenly recalled the events of last night.

It took her a while to realize she was in Kaelith’s mansion. The books Martha arranged for her were still placed untouched. Her chest was feeling light after crying and sleeping.

But the void was still there. Not letting it ruin her day, Amara decided to freshen up. Since her wounds were fresh, she refrained from bathing but decided to clean herself with wipes.

Openingthe bathroomdoor, she was metwitha large giganticjacuzzibathtub.Blackmarbled floor and cabinet with pristine white glass decor. The bathroom was far shinier than her life. She knew Kaelith was rich, but this much rich enough to afford gold faucets and taps? There was no comparison to his wealth.

She felt like she was walking into a five-star hotel instead of a bathroom.

As she reached the wash basin, her eyes enlarged the moment her gaze landed on her reflection. What was she wearing?

CHAPTER 43

Amara quickly turned around and stared at her back in shock. Not even a single inch of skin was showing. Her whole back was covered in bandages. And to her horror, the dress was backless.

Thefrontwasn’tdecenteither.Thedeepnecklinethatalmostspiltmostofherchestandthe short length that exposed her legs. Her cheeks flamed at the realisation. Did Kaelith see her like this last night?

Shame infused within her. Grabbing the sink, she took deep breaths. Calm down, she shouldn’t panic like this. It was probably too dark for him to see her like this, right? He wouldn’t has caught anything inappropriate, right?

She tried to assure herself knowing damn well that the design of the dress wasn’t as scandalous as the things he did to her.

Taking a deep breath, she focused on the task at hand.

She found two new toothbrushes, a razor, and a toothpaste placed in the holder. Amara frowned. Someone must have kept it by mistake.

She brushed her teeth and did her morning business. She couldn’t find wipes in the bathroom, so she wet the towel and cleaned her neck and legs with it mistakenly getting the water on her poor excuse of night dress too.

“Oh, no,” Amara mumbled flapping the rim of the dress. But it only got more wet. Heaving a deep sigh she cursed herluck. Thinking maybe she could find it in the closet to change into, Amara pat-dried her face and walked into the room.

The closet was on the opposite side, with a glass door and with wardrobe.

Amara turned the doorknob fully expecting to find either a neat stack of fresh clothes or nothing. As the door creaked open, her eyes widened in disbelief. Instead of the anticipated spare clothes, her gaze fell upon a collection of meticulously organized male clothes.

Her nose suddenly caught a hint of familiar fragrance in the air—a sophisticated blend of spicy and woody scent. She closed her eyes and tilted her head back. It was something Kaelith smelled like.

Opening her eyes she glanced around the room.
