Aw, he's pouting.
"Don't forget I know when you're feeling sassy, Firefly," he warns while grunting through the change of weights. "Your scent changes."
What? Wait, is he serious?
He chuckles and settles himself on the leather seat. "It's like getting zapped by your attitude without you using words. Your rainy scent gets a little fizzly or something and it tickles my nose. That sounds weird..."
I giggle and cross my legs. His eyes widen at the sound, but he quickly blinks his reaction away and plants his legs on the weight platform thingy. His eyepatch makes him look even more broody than normal. I don't hate it.
The warmth of the gym mixed with being near Riot again makes my eyes a bit droopy. My posture slowly curls, and I relax beneath a fuzzy blanket that soaks in his scent like a sponge.
I would probably fall asleep if he weren't so...so...
"You just going to creep on me all night, little Omega?" Riot teases dropping his shirt back over his sweaty stomach.
Oops, was I ogling?
All I can do is shrug in response. I know he hates when I do that, but I don't have anything to say. The fact that I want to be around him and feel like I can finally relax is everything.
Frowning, Riot saunters over and drops into a crouch in front of me. "You should be in bed. We've had a long week. You need rest."
Obviously, but so does he. I point at him and raise my eyebrows. You need sleep too.
He sighs and I wish like hell I could see both of his eyes. Why would I want to double his intensity? "You're right. We both should be in bed, but I couldn't sleep either. I have all this energy built up, and it needs to come out somehow."
Then I'm glad he has the gym down here with him. He takes a sip from his water bottle, and I make a mental note to check hisfridge tomorrow. If he wants to hide away, I'll make sure he has everything he needs.
I point at him again and cock my head. Are you going to bed now?
He seems confused for a moment before he replies. "I'm gonna try to do a light jog on the treadmill." I glance at his shoulder. "If anything, just a light walk. Don't worry, I won't aggravate it."
Was I worried?
"What about you? Will you go try to get some sleep for both of us?"Why is he worried?
My response is to snuggle further into my beanbag chair and shake my head. I'm comfortable here and I want to stay. Plus, I like the rhythmic sound of the treadmill.
Warmth heats from my kneecap to the top of my head when Riot places his hand on my knee. "I'm sure your men are going to be worried when they wake up and realize you're not there, Firefly..."
"You're right," Kade interrupts, making me jump and grab onto Riot's wrist. "Sorry, baby." Worried, Kade rushes into the gym and kneels beside Riot. He doesn't even take a second glance at the hold I have on the new alpha.
"She needs some sleep," Riot grunts and tries to pull away from me, but I don't let him. My heart is pounding and I really don't want to leave. "Hey, it's just Kade. You're okay. He's going to bring you to bed."
Nibbling on my bottom lip, I slowly pry my fingers from his warm skin. A stuttering breath comes out of me, and I blow it out with slight frustration. Kade's bond tries to soothe my mind, but there's no soothing the annoyance I have with myself.Who jumps from their alpha?!
"Alright, Vivie, time to get some sleep. You're overtired," Kade murmurs and scoops me up from my cozy chair.
While I don't protest or tell him that I'm notjustovertired, I keep my eyes locked on Riot. He watches me being carried out as well until we can't see each other anymore.
Tears blur my eyes. Something about being removed from his potent scent and proximity makes me exhausted.
"Shh, just sleep, my love."
Okay...
Twelve
