All I could think of was the day of the incident. I had been following Ricky. I had been led to the lake, and now it turned out that the people he was making deals with had a lakefront property.

Shit kept getting more twisted. Weirder…and frankly more deadly.

The rest of the ride back into town was quiet. I didn’t even bother to say bye once I got into my car. As soon as the engine purred to life, I took off. I knew I couldn’t keep avoiding the others, and I needed to touch base.

I figured I would call Ava first since she tended to worry more, and she wouldn’t bitch me out as much as Grayson would.

I wasn’t scared of what he thought, but it was late, and the last thing I needed was a migraine.

The phone rang twice when Ava rushed to answer.

“Oh, look who’s alive,” she answered in a mocking tone.

It was easy for Ava to make me smile.

“The job is done,” I told her, knowing she would have been worried about that.

“How did it go?” Micah was the one who replied.

“Did anyone follow you?”

“You’re on speaker,” Ava mumbled.

“You don’t say,” I added with no bite in my tone.

“I didn’t see dick, but I did find a tidbit of information. Rendezvous at my place?”

“Yeah, we also have some stuff we want to tell you.”

“Okay. See you guys in a bit.”

The line was silent but not dead, and I didn’t want to be the one to hang up.

“We’re glad you’re okay, Martinez.”

My throat constricted at Grayson’s voice, and the knot that had been in my stomach all day seemed to ease.

“Fuck off, Cross,” I said, but I could hear the amusement in my own voice. I didn’t wait for them to reply and hung up the call instead.

The three of us waited for Cruz to get to his apartment complex.

On the way there, we stopped by to pick up a couple of pizzas since we figured Cruz had barely eaten anything today. If we were hungry, he had to be starving.

“Hell of a place to live alone,” Grayson mumbled as he investigated the apartment building.

Both Micah and I looked at each other, but we knew damn well we shouldn’t tease Grayson about caring. He would go ahead and deny it, but we knew better.

Cruz was growing on him, and he hated it.

I loved it, and I assumed Micah did too.

Our boyfriend was starting to like our other boyfriend.

Was that too confusing?
