“I’m pretty sure they were in the —” she paused, cocking her head to the side. “You can ask them yourself. They’re coming up the stairs.”
Dimitris cocked his head too, mimicking her movement. It was several long seconds before he heard footfalls. Less than a minute later a knock sounded at the door.
“Dimitris, I’m sorry to interrupt, but we have something really important to discuss with you.” Lukyan’s voice was muffled by the thick wooden door.
“Can it wait until tomorrow? I’m kind of busy in here.”
A snort of laughter came from the hall. Cate rolled her eyes.Alek,she mouthed to him. He smiled back.
“It involves your mate’s safety, D. I think you will want to come speak with us.”
Lukyan’s cryptic message hit its target. Dimitris rolled over, effectively depositing Cate on her side of the bed. “I’ll be right down. Give me a few minutes.”
She watched as her mate stalked through the suite, picking his clothes from the floor as he moved toward the bathroom. “I told you they were in the study,” she crowed. “How did you not hear them? They were so incredibly loud.”
Dimitris stepped into the door frame, toothbrush stuck in the side of his mouth. “I think hearing is your gift.”
“My gift? What are you talking about?”
“Your gift. Every shifter has a gift. I thought yours would be stamina. You outran everyone the night you shifted. But it must be hearing. No normal wolf would be able to hear what you heard in the study. It’s too far away.”
“So everyone has a gift?” Why had no one mentioned this to her before. “What’s yours?”
“I have a common alpha gift. People naturally trust me and want to follow me.”
Cate crossed her arms, the pose pushed her still naked breasts higher. “You get a leadership gift, and I get hearing? I’m an alpha, too. I should get something good.” She pursed her lips in an experimental pout. Walking into the bathroom, she cleaned herself before taking out her own toothbrush. “What are some of the other gifts in the pack?”
Dimitris spit into his sink. “Lukyan sees patterns. That’s what makes him so good at investments. It’s like he has a sixth sense for finding the stocks that are going to boom. Mylo is strong — super-hero strong. Alek, believe it or not, can move things with his mind. He doesn’t get to use it often, but it’s pretty damn cool when he does.”
“Telekinesis? Alek gets telekinesis?”
“Well, we can’t all hear really well.”
