He sat on the kitchen chair and pulled her down on his lap. They sat there holding each other without words. None were needed.

At last, Noah broke their silent reverie. “I want you to meet my family.”

“I already met your parents at the basketball game.”

“Not just my parents. We all get together for Sunday dinner whenever our schedules allow. At least twice a month.”

“Don’t you have a big family? Are you sure there will be room for me?”

Noah laughed. “No, but we’ll make room.”

“So you want me to meet yourwholefamily some Sunday?”

“Yeah. I want you to meet my big fat phoenix family,thisSunday. Please?”

The invitation was sweet and signaled a shift in their relationship. She realized it was a direction she wanted to follow. “Okay.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. I’ll meet your big fat phoenix family this Sunday.”
