Great reference:/ Not guesswork though mate. Google it. Witness was: Gemma Barnet. She was 14 at the time. Skipped school with a friend and they didn’t come forward at the time. Too scared coz they shouldn’t have been there.

Then Anna had tapped the next link, a more recent article, this one from just over a year ago.

Human Remains Identified as Those of

Missing Sixth Former Melissa Craig

21.03.23

Police have confirmed that human remains, found in the remote Scottish location of Knoydart earlier this week, are those of the missing Berkshire schoolgirl Melissa Craig.

Craig, 18, missing for over 18 years, was last seen, according to witness statements, leaving Canning Park on foot before getting into a car with a white male, and heading north away from the park.

The remains, found by former lifeboat service engineer Roger Thompson, 67, whilst hiking, were immediately reported and taken away for police analysis.

“I stumbled on the area, to be honest, needed a comfort break and headed into one of the wooded areas. I’m not surprised no one’s found it for years. There’s not a lot of through-traffic up here, as you’d imagine. It’s lain undisturbed for quite some time. There had clearly been a fire there at some point. I went over to take alook at the charred area and that’s when I knew something wasn’t right,” Thompson told reporters.

Berkshire Police, in conjunction with Fort William Police, have since confirmed that after DNA analysis the remains are those of Melissa Craig, a cause of death being registered as blunt-force trauma.

Further analysis of intact bone fragments has allowed the police to piece together the tragic final moments of Melissa’s life.

Berkshire and Fort William constabulary are calling for any new information, or any historical eye witnesses, to unusual behaviour in the Knoydart hiking area, to come forward.

Anna stared at the screen for a long moment, a dread sinking down and down, like a stone, deep into the pit of her.

Melissa. Lissa. Melissa. Lissa. The names pulsed in her head, dizziness threatening to overwhelm her.

She sifted through the numbers, the dates slotting back through time. This missing girl and Simon would be almost the same age.

Simon walked to Knoydart the year Melissa Craig went missing and her remains were found eighteen years later in the same spot.

But why would Simon tell her he’d been to Knoydart, if he did this, why would he be so stupid as to mention the place, Anna asks herself, desperate for a reason to believe she’s mistaken.

But then she remembered that Simon didn’t tell her about Melissa—he didn’t know she knew that name. The information he gave her wasn’t enough to find out any of this. He must have lied to her about where he grew up, too; he must have grown up where Melissa grew up.

Simon hadn’t meant to tell her. But now she knew.

The perfect, love-filled life Anna thought she would have with Simon darkened and crumbled, like the charred remnants of a fire.
