Reece leaned heavily against the back of his car. They were both giving him more grace than he deserved, and Liam still hadn’t run screaming from all the weird-ass things in Jamey’s life. “And what does he understand aboutyou, Jamey? And what’s he going to do if he finds out?”
“I don’t know,” Jamey said, sounding very honest. “But he sure takes all your weird paranormal shit in stride. And speaking of you and the shit you get up to, put Grayson on the phone.
Grayson? With a shrug, Reece walked over to the passenger door. Grayson was already on the phone, but Reece knocked on the window anyway.
Grayson pulled the phone away from his mouth and cracked the door. “This conversation is not for empaths.”
Reece held out his own phone. “For you.”
Grayson looked from the phone to Reece, then took it. “Grayson. Who—?” He promptly cut his sentence off. He listened for a moment, then said, “It was a—misunderstanding.”
Reece snorted.
“He’s—” began Grayson, then he paused. “But I—” He paused again. “Yes, ma’am. Yes, I—no, ma’am—yes. Understood.”
He passed the phone back to Reece. “Consider this an apology for cuffing you over the hood of your car.”
Reece blinked. “Um—okay?” He put the phone to his ear and took a few steps away from the car. “The Dead Man just said sorry to me. What did you threaten him with?”
“You literally don’t want to know,” said Jamey. “Where are you going now?”
“Some place called McFeely’s.”
“You’re joking.”
“You’ve heard of it?” Reece said in surprise. “You’ve never told me about it.”
“I don’t tell you lots of things. Grayson gets to break this one to you. Gotta go.”
Reece made a face at the phone. He walked over to the passenger window, and when he knocked, Grayson opened the door all of an inch.
Reece folded his arms, phone still in hand. “I’m not going to like this McFeely’s place, am I?”
“Your sister is making me tell you for a reason.”
Of course he’d overheard. Reece was beginning to suspect Grayson’s hearing was as good as Jamey’s.
“Sooner you get behind the wheel, the sooner we get it over with,” Grayson pointed out.
But Reece had a question. “Is Huang going to tell Stone he told you about McFeely’s?”
“No.”
Reece waited, but no further explanation came. He huffed. “How’d you get Huang to talk anyway?”
“You were there.”
“Yeah, and I didn’t seeanything. One moment he’s the Fort Knox of information, the next he can’t confess to you fast enough. Is everyone with Stone Solutions scared of you?”
“It’s smart to be scared of me.” Grayson didn’t say it like a threat. He said it simply, the way he might have saidit’s smart to grab a hat if it’s raining.
But then, Reece never wore hats. He got in the car. “So you’re totally okay going to this McFeely’s place and digging up dirt on Stone?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
“Because you and Stone have reached thereserved parking spotphase of your relationship. I’m expecting the engagement announcement any day.”
“I hope I haven’t given you the impression anyone can trust me.”
