I want to hurt them—kill themall. I want to find Ronan and end his traitorous life. He’s the leak—and he wasn’t on my radar. No connection to the Board other than he doesn’t like a woman leading his clan.
Most of all, I want Killian to tell me it’ll be alright. That I can do this.
“Hey, look at me,” he demands, but I can hardly hear over the thumping of blood in my ears.
Biting my lower lip, I nod, but I don’t feel his confidence. “They planted him. And I fucking fell for it.”
Just like a woman to be so weak.
Will you cry this time?
He growls, a dark promise in his chest. “Reese.”
Shoving him away, I exit the basement, ignoring the dead body. Let him stay there and rot for all I care. I have a cop to find and gut—and a soldier to kill.
Kicking open my office door, I stalk to my desk. My phone is there, and as I pick it up, I bring up Reese’s old texts.
Simple, easy texts. Not flirty. Nothing that tipped me off.
How fucking stupid could I have been to miss this?
“Princess.”
Glancing over my shoulder, I swallow as I lock eyes with the Reaper blocking the doorway. They’re endless, soulless twin orbs of darkness that beg to take me to the depths of the underworld.
Closing the door, the lock clicks loudly in the silent room. The sound reverberates throughout my bones and settles within my heart, and I know the Reaper won’t let me escape whatever comes next.

“Not now.”
“I think now is the perfect time,” he says easily. Crossing his arms, I’m distracted by the expanse of inked skin under his shirt. “Did you know?”
Hands on my hips, I pace the office, glaring up at the ceiling. “That Reese was a plant? No.”
“But you suspected.”
Growling, I throw my hands out. “I suspectedsomething. You actually pointed it out.” At his raised brow, I continue, “You said who would leave a woman on a lunch date? I figured it was you being a pissy pain-in-the-ass. But it stuck with me.”
You look better if you cry.
Killian smirks, nodding. “I was, but I’m glad I still helped.”
“He pushed for that place. And then he said—” my voice cuts off. He seemed concerned with the change-up after the date in the city. But when he brought me home, he insisted on me staying for over two hours.
Then, he was there at the Wharf.
You could never lead.
“Murray must have told Bruno,” I say, rubbing my chin. “He must have told him about Reese. Reese has to be on Bruno’s payroll.” He’s playing both sides—sending information to his master while giving details to the Board. “That fucking asshole was at the storeroom—“ He didn’t let Bruno in, but was looking out. He’s the link, the connection between everything.
I kick my heel into the side of my desk, denting the heavy wood. Ragged breaths fall from my lips.
“I never fucking saw it.”
Such a weak fucking girl.
