“To christen our new place?” she teases.
“Yeah, that and to work on the baby-making thing too.”
She laughs, shaking her head at me. “You know it could take a while, don’t you? I only came off the pill a week ago.”
“I know,” I say, unlocking the car. “Doesn’t mean we can’t get lots of practice in. This baby isn’t gonna make itself, babe.”
Smiling, she stops, turning to look up at me. “I love you,” she whispers, sliding her arms around my waist.
I close the distance, kissing her slow and deep. “Love you too, babe.”
After we grab food and drinks, we head back to what is now officially our place. It takes us a couple of trips from the car, but after we get everything inside, I pin Quinn against the front door and fuck her like I planned to do weeks ago.
She laughs, indulging me, before we shower and change and get everything ready for tonight.
One thing the house does have is a lot of space. It’s set back from the beach, but it has amazing views of the mountains. I already have big plans for an outdoor deck and entertaining area, and I can’t wait to start building it with my brother and dad.
“Hello!” comes Eli’s voice from the front door. “Safe to come inside?”
“Yes!” I yell as Quinn laughs and says, “That’s what she said.”
We hear the front door open and slam shut before Eli strolls into the kitchen with a bottle of champagne. “Happy divorce,” he says, giving Quinn a kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks,” she says with a laugh. “Feels good to be free of him.”
“Epic slay on that podcast episode too,” he adds as Miles and Daisy walk in, Daze with a cake box in her hands.
“I made you something,” she says with a grin as she puts the box on the counter.
Quinn lifts the lid, letting out a loud laugh when she sees what’s inside. “Oh my god, this is awesome,” she says, hugging Daisy.
I look in the box, laughing when I see what looks like a wedding cake. Only instead of a bride and groom on the top, there’s just a bride standing like she’s pushed the groom off the top of the cake. His body is lying beside it in a pool of red icing. In place of the words ‘Just Married’ are the words ‘I’m done.’
“Holy shit, that is so cool,” I say, dropping a kiss on Daze’s head.
The guys from the band walk in, along with Jonah and Lacey. Everyone is bringing Quinn a present to celebrate her divorce, which is fucking hilarious. I don’t know if she’s ever going to want to get married again. It’s not something we’ve talked about yet, but I’m fine either way. I don’t need a piece of paper telling me I love her and want to spend the rest of my life with her.
Pretty soon, everyone is here, all of us sitting around outside as I fire up the grill. Looking around at all of our friends, I know I’m gonna have to build a pretty big deck area to entertain everyone.
“Man, this place really is kind of an eyesore,” Nate says as he hands me a beer. “I’d forgotten how ugly it is.”
I laugh, taking a sip. “I know, it’s shit, the color scheme, but not for long.”
He raises a brow in question as he says, “Oh?”
Laughing, I flip the burgers and stuff on the grill, not saying anything.
“Kai,” Nate prods as Flynn walks over to join us.
“What?” I ask, feigning ignorance.
“You’re being suspicious,” he says. “And unusually quiet.”
“What’s going on?” Flynn asks.
Nate points his beer at me. “Something, that’s for sure. Spill it, dude.”
“All in good time,” I say with a laugh.
