“How,” she cleared her throat gently, “does a couple decide, exactly?”

By now he was sure that perspiration was dripping down his forehead.“Decide what?”

She bit her bottom lip, pulling it softly into her mouth, and he nearly gripped her upper arms to shake the question out of her. That, or drink it off of her lips.

“Which—erm—position they’ll use.”

The question dropped like a boulder in a lake. And at the same time shot off like pyrotechnics in a black sky.

This was an excellent question. He wanted to grin, but he schooled his features to be more…professional.

Wanting more information, he pushed just a little, “What do you mean?”

Instinctively, her hands flew out from her sides, incidentally grazing his thigh. He hadn’t realized how close he’d been standing to her.

“I mean, they don’t just flip open…the erm—book, and pick a page.”His silence and small smirk had her tagging on, “Do they?”

He shrugged.“Why not?”

“It seems like that would take the passion out of the act.”

He rubbed his jaw with one of his hands.“Which page would you pick?”

Startled, she took a step back.“What?”

“It seems obvious to me that you’ve thought this through.Which page would you pick?”

“I h-hadn’t—”

“What’s the harm in telling me?”

And just when he thought that she wouldn’t disclose the information—that it would be too good to be true if she did—she blurted out, “Thirty-six.”

His cock throbbed at the number.Thirty-six was a page he knew well.

“Shall we test your theory?”

“What theory?”

“That choosing a page and acting on it robs the moment of passion.”

“Oh.”Her hands fisted into the fabric of her skirts.“I couldn’t possibly.”

“I could.”

“Well, really…”

“If it helps to know, I’ll be the one doing all the work.”

“Yes.”Her eyes fell to his lips and didn’t move.“Quite.”

And they stood in charged air for what felt like an eon to Soren.“Was that a yes?”

After studying his mouth for a few more beats, she nodded.

“I need to hear you say it, my studious little librarian.”

“Yes,” she whispered.“I think we should test the theory.”
