“Of course, you both know how to use a fucking gun don't you boys?”
We both nod in response to his question and take the guns from the rear of our pants before cocking them back. I cast a glance over at the abandoned building from afar behind his shoulder, knowing she is somewhere inside, and I just want to get the fuck down there to get her.
“We leave in a minute, but you need to stay the fuck with me at all times, understand? No going and doing your own thing to find her like a fucking hero; leave that to my men while we sweep the building behind them.”
We both give another silent nod of agreement before he continues.
“I don’t know what the fuck you boys have seen in your lifetime; I am almost certain it ain't pretty being the mafia, but nothing will quite prepare you for what you are about to see now. Be fucking mindful of that.”
I inhale deeply once again from his blunt words before turning around to notice all his men are ready and loaded. I glance between the thirty something men dressed in black with balaclava’s on and Arlo speaks behind me.
“Right, you know what to fucking do. If you find her or him, you come to me.”
I watch as they all start to jog past us and when they are further in front, Arlo flicks his cigarette away before cocking his gun back.
“Let’s do this.”
Me and Chaos stride beside him over the muddy, damp grass, and I keep my eyes fixed on the building, watching Arlo’s men storm inside before gunshots start exploding immediately. We rush in there ourselves, guns aimed forward, walking fast down a long, disgusting corridor while Arlo’s men sweep room by room, the high-pitched screams of women echoing around us.
My irritability grows inside of me to not only find her but to also find and kill Maddox. This is probably why Arlo said we must stay with him; he knew one of us would want to go and do it ourselves, which could fuck everything up.
When we are around halfway through the building and have killed some motherfuckers, one of Arlo’s soldiers stops us.
“Maddox fled, Arlo, but our men are on chase.”
“What do you mean fled? By car? By fucking foot? What?”
“He got into a car.”
“With her?”
“No, he didn’t have a girl with him.”
I sigh and face away as Arlo growls beside me before gritting his teeth in anger.
“Well, you better go fucking get him.”
Arlo’s soldier nods before dashing away and he scoffs.
“That mother-fucking pussy.”
When he strides forward, we walk with him and after only a couple more steps, a different soldier comes to him.
“Boss, I think we found her.”
I feel my stomach drop and me and Chaos’s eyes meet swiftly before I shift forward, following the guy to where he is going at a fast pace.
When he comes to a halt outside of an open cell-like door, I do too and as Chaos goes in first, I take a second longer to mentallyprepare myself for what I am about to see. Noticing Arlo side-eying me, I straighten my shoulders and proceed cautiously inside, where I spot Chaos standing in the middle of the room, but I cannot see behind him yet. As the soldier speaks, I carefully walk around Chaos.
“I think she is knocked out. She is breathing, but she's not waking up.”
I freeze in place as I spot her huddled in the farthest corner of the tiny room, her frail body coiled up on the cold, hard floor as she sleeps beneath a filthy blanket. When I examine her once radiant face, I notice that her complexion is pale, yet she has two black eyes and her formerly beautiful long, dark hair is matted.
Anger surges through me like a tidal wave, my fists clenching at my sides as I whirl around to confront Maddox, but Arlo steps in my path, blocking my way. My jaw tightens as I pull my gaze away because he gives me a stern look that tells me not to.
“I will handle Maddox and I will fucking keep him until she—”
He peers around my tall frame and points in Charley's direction before returning his gaze to mine.
