Don’t talk in your room

We’ll discuss when we get there

He means the vacation house. We’ve had to be careful what we say where. Now I can’t even fuck Harper in my bed because I’m being watched. This better be a new development because ifmy parents are perving on my girl, I won’t be responsible for my actions.

I grab my bag and stand. The lamp sits there so fucking innocuous that I don’t even think about it ever. But the only ones who have access to my room are my parents or the people they hire.

Anger curls in my gut. I pick up the lamp and hurl it against the wall, watching the pieces fall to the floor. The great thing about a house this big is my parents won’t know until Friday when the cleaners come.

If they know sooner though, I’ll know they planted the fucking camera.

Eli

The peewee football practice is actually a fun break from all the crap we’re going through. The kids have their own shit they’re dealing with, but it’s little shit and not like the things we have coming at us.

I stop at home afterwards, knowing my father’s phone is off, which usually means he’s at work, and my mother is out shopping. I want to pack a bag for tonight. We all definitely want to play with Harper, and I’m going to need supplies.

Pocketing my keys, I walk into the kitchen.

“I don’t want anything to do with this. I got out years ago because of this shit. Anything you do, the shit just keeps growing deeper and I refuse to be buried in it.” My dad’s voice is loud. I’ve never heard my dad this angry except when he’s arguing with my mom.

I creep to the kitchen door and see William Foster standing in my dad’s office doorway. He smiles like he doesn’t have a carein the world, but it’s cold. I sink back into the kitchen but stay by the doorway to listen.

“Cam, we need all of us on board with this. All of our sons are involved.” William sounds smug. “Their futures depend on how we deal with this.”

“My son is getting as far away from this town as possible when he graduates. I’m not chaining him to my side like you do yours.”

What the hell are they talking about? I pull out my phone and hit the record because I need to study this later and let the guys and Harper listen.

“Your wife might not agree. Nora always was more cutthroat than you.”

“Is that why you fucked her?” my dad spits out.

Fuck.

My dad continues, “Yeah, she told me about the affair. She’s always been mine, William. Always. That was the fucking deal. You broke it. I don’t owe you shit.”

William laughs. “She came on to me. It’s not my fault she finds you too routine. Besides, that’s not the only thing she’s hiding from you. You might have left us years ago, but she never did. You don’t think her interior design company really makes all that money on its own, do you?” William makes a tsking noise. “You’re smarter than that, Cam.”

“Fuck you.”

“We need to focus on what’s important. The girl.”

Harper. My fists clench.

“The one that’s dating our sons?”

I’m not surprised my father knows. He’s not stupid and doesn’t stick his head in the sand, refusing to see the truth. But that they know means we’re in more danger than we thought.

“Yes.” William’s voice is curt. “She’ll have access to whatever her father left behind.”

“Maybe you shouldn’t have run Sean out of town if he had sensitive information.” My dad sounds finished with the conversation. “Do you think she knows where he is?”

“I know where he is.” William’s voice holds no inflection.

“What did you do?” My dad sounds taken aback.
