I arched my back and he fisted my hair, pulling it hard and forcing me up onto my knees as he continued to rock against my ass. I reached behind with both hands and clawed at his sides, and he returned the attack with a bite on my shoulder, then pushed me back onto my hands and knees, taking his fill any way he wanted it.
We were animals in the dirt, scratching and biting, fighting, fucking, and I’d never felt anything so raw. So primal. So perfect.
The heat was rising inside me again, building, winding me tight as he sped up his thrusts. He slammed into me one last time, growling as he shuddered against me, coming in a hot torrent that sent me right into another spiral. I choked out his name, and he pulled out and brought his bare hand down on my ass with a crack that echoed through the trees, and I came so hard I had tears in my eyes.

HALEY
You’re singing,” Jax said as we continued walking north through the woods.
“Humming, technically. Is that a problem?” I laughed. “After all the noise we made earlier, I didn’t think a little music would suddenly give away our position.”
“It’s not a problem. It’s… cute.”
Heat crept into my cheeks, and I knew I should’ve left it at that.
But I just couldn’t help myself.
“It’s… a thing I do,” I confessed. “After.”
“After…? You mean… oh. Oh! Well, damn.” He arched an eyebrow, mischief flashing in his eye. “Is that why Saint calls you—”
“Yes. Can we move on?”
He stopped and grabbed my hand, pulling me close. With a hot kiss behind my ear, he whispered, “No. I want to make you sing again.”
“Too late,” I teased. “You ruined the mood with all the talking.”
“Let me make it up to you.” He kissed his way down my neck, reaching for the zipper on the shirt I’d changed into after he’d ruined the last one. I was just about to give in, just about to let him drag me to the ground for another go, when a rustling in the trees ahead stopped us cold.
“Jax?” I whispered. “Did you—”
He clamped a hand hard over my mouth and dragged me to the ground, but not for anything fun.
“Stay here,” he whispered, hot and low in my ear. “Don’t make a sound. I’ll be right back.”
I nodded, watching with my heart in my throat as he took off in the direction of the sound. Seconds later, a young fae soldier emerged onto the path about twenty feet in front of me, stopping to scan the area.
Shit.
I slid the dagger from my holster. I had maybe five seconds before she spotted me.
A noise behind her caught her attention, but it was too late.
Jax was already on her. He grabbed her head, and I held my breath for the tell-tale pop of a snapped neck.
It never came.
The fae’s arms went limp at her sides, and she dropped soundlessly to her knees, Jax crouching down behind her, still holding her head.
Even from this distance, I could tell she was beautiful. Ethereal.
Staying low, I crept a little closer.
What the fuck is he doing?
Suddenly, all the color drained from her face, her eyes wide with fear. I’d never seen anyone look so flat-out terrified. I wanted to run to her. To shove that demon away and save the poor creature from whatever torment he was undoubtedly inflicting.
