She stills beneath my hand, breath fogging the sleek mahogany finish of my desk, and I take one more moment to breathe her in. All of her.

My beautiful, insufferable, perfect little brat…

Ever so slowly, I begin moving my hips again, dragging out of her, then sinking back in, one inch at a time until her perfect pink flesh swallows my dark gray length, the contrasting colors of our skin shimmering where our bodies join. I lower my hands to her hips and grip her tightly, my tail working her clit with slow circles, her hair bouncing along her back with every thrust, faster and deeper, harder, thoughts and words fading away as we fuck and pant and devour and…

“Daddy,” she breathes, her body fisting my cock as the orgasm crashes through her, and I tighten my grip on her hips and drive into her harder, once, twice, three more times and then…

Oh, fuck…That’s it. Right fucking there, and I’m… I’m gone.

A roar rips through my chest, and I come inside her with the force of the waves breaking against the cliffs of my homeland, shuddering against her perfect skin until I forget about the dangers facing us both, forget about the curse, forget about the constant ache in my heart. I come until I’m utterly spent, until I can do nothing more but collapse on top of her and sigh, wishing this didn’t have to be the last time.

It’s the buzzing on my desk that saves us both—me, from losing myself to my own despair, and the little mortal from having to deal with another of my infamous mood swings.

“Looks like Klaiburn came through for us,” I say, standing up and reading his text. “He was able to locate the box in your father’s name—number 8164. The key is on his desk. Starting thirty minutes from now, the bank will be empty and security systems offline for unscheduled maintenance for exactly one hour.”

I help her to her feet, my hands on her bare shoulders as she looks up at me with dazed, happy eyes.

They aren’t the kind of eyes that speak to an intense physical connection. To a run of hot, filthy sex.

They’re the kind of eyes that speak not of wild nights at all, but of slow, delicious mornings. Of breakfasts in bed. Of coffee gone cold over good conversation that bleeds into the afternoons, the evenings, and all the mornings that follow.

Mornings a gargoyle will never see.

Fresh pain twists my heart for all the things I can not have. All the things I can not give.

“Draegan,” she whispers. “I—”

I press a finger to her lips, silencing her.

There are a thousand words I could say in this moment. Words Ishouldsay—the right and honorable ones. Or even the wrong but genuine ones.

But looking into her eyes now, I can’t bring myself to say either.

Calling up my glamour and shoring up the walls around my heart, I say only, “Best clean up and find your clothing, Miss Avery. Time to go collect your inheritance.”

Chapter Thirty-Five

WESTLYN

The bank VP came through. Draegan and I found the bank empty, as promised, the key right where he said it’d be.

We found the safe deposit box. Together with the bank’s key and mine, we opened it, revealing the long metal box inside, which now sits on a table in front of us in a so-called “privacy room” the size of closet, waiting to be opened.

Waiting to reveal its secrets.

A spark of excitement zips around my insides, but I can’t even allow myself to enjoy this small victory.

My father left something important for me to find—somethingsoimportant, he felt the need to hide it behind a series of clues so random and unlikely, I only figured them out by chance, with the help of my gargoyle A-team. Now, thanks to Draegan’s connection at the bank, I’m about to get my hands on it. My so-called legacy, for better or worse.

I should be grateful. Ecstatic, even. We’re one step closer to solving another piece of the puzzle.

But all I can think about is Draegan.

My mind is spinning. My heart is doing double time. And my pussy? I thought the poor thing had been through the wringer during that car ride the other night. But now?Fuhgettaboutit. After tonight’s desktop dalliances? We arenevergoing to recover.

Because all tonight’s little escapade did was leave me desperately wanting more.
