“Make yourself at home, Cupcake.” I opened the door and stepped out onto the porch, Bella bounding out into the snow ahead of me. “Don’t wait up.”

Outside, I trudged out behind the garage and out of sight from the windows. Certain she couldn’t see me, I stripped out of my clothes and boots, cracked my neck, and let my wolf loose.

With a roar, my muscles elongated, my skin growing thick with fur, bones snapping and popping, ushering in the familiar pain that plowed through me as everything inside shattered and reformed.

Wolf.

I howled into the night, grateful to be out of that human fucking skin.

And then, with Bella at my side, I ran.

So hard, so fast, until everything around me blurred into a raging sea of pure, violent white and I was certain I’d left all that horrible guilt and shame behind.
