Alex climbed on the bike and pulled me after him, swinging my arm around his waist. He revved the bike and—
“Jade!”
But that voice was already far behind us.
The only sound in my ears was the motorcycle echoing in the dark street.
The only tactile sensation was the warmth of his chest.
The only thing that mattered wasus, and we were speeding out of my past.
I closed my eyes and never let go.

Make me come, Daddy

As soon as I turned on Jade’s vibrator, I had to turn it off.
“Dawes. You coming with? I have about ten men going to get Martinov. Pavlov’s second.”
I stared at the video of Julian’s office, listening as he and the police chief mentioned our last names.
“Where’s Martinov?”Julian asked, standing from his desk. The police chief withdrew his phone and turned it to Julian.
“Mm. That’s all the way across town. As much as I want to see him shoved into the back of a cruiser, I have to finish this up. I’ll catch up with both of them here, though,”Julian responded, but I was already up on my feet, bolting around Jade’s apartment and gathering the essentials.
“Moretti asked for the guys not to bust in.”The video continued while I swiped a few things into a small backpack.Moretti.
Fuck.
He planned ittonight.
“Ask them to come to the door and then go for it. Ten against one—you can’t lose. Easy peasy. Plus, gives them less ammunition if we’re not aggressive.”
Julian’s voice sounded from the laptop while I dialed Andrei. It rang and rang, but he didn’t pick up. I called Olga—same thing.
Andrei and Olga: LEAVE NOW.
I sent the text, shut the laptop, and shoved it into the backpack, already walking to the front door, but—
Knock. Knock.
They were already here.
I froze, wondering if the video was delayed. There was a shuffling of feet outside the door and a muffled man’s voice. The knock sounded again.
I thought about Jade and why this was happening tonight. Her father called her a few days ago and invited her to dinner—to make amends, as he said. He felt that he’d been too harsh on her since she’d come back.
And like the pure-hearted angel that she was, she agreed to meet him, but the truth was, he’d been planning to arrest me theoneday he knew she wouldn’t be around.
Fuck!
I stepped out onto the balcony, carefully peeking over the railing. Deserted. With my heart pumping inside my throat, I climbed over the ledge and scaled down, leaving the same way I arrived.
Thankful that the cops didn’t have enough foresight to surround the building, I slipped into the dark night, unnoticed.
