“I was going to say I don’t want to scare you off, I need you here,” I say, not too sure of how convincing I sound.

“Here, as in glued to your dick, or in the office. Since we’re being honest and all,” she says in her deliciously sarcastic tone.

“Well, if you are so keen on being honest, I think you should stop trying to pin me as the sleazy boss, when you have been more than a willing participant,” I snap. This is typical of me. I become defensive when I feel the walls that I have worked so meticulously at building are threatened.

“Don’t paint me as the office slut, Mr. Moretti. Society may say it’s wrong what we are doing, but society is stupid, because they will paint you a triumphant hero, while they paint me a whore.”

“I’m anything but a hero, Ms. Ricci.”

“And I am anything but a whore, Mr. Moretti.”

“I never said you were,” I remind her.

She rolls her eyes. “You clearly needed someone to fuck and fill the void you have been left with, and I can relate. Maybe we are both so broken that that’s why this works,” she snaps.

There is pain in her voice. Her sexy facade is just a disguise she wears to mask the pain she has carried all this time. I know this because I, too, wear the same disguise. Daily. For too fucking long.

We are two souls torn in two, trying to repair the damage with intimacy. But little does she know that her betrayer and healer are one and the same.

“It seems we have more in common than we thought, Ms. Ricci.”

This song and dance we continue to play is tempting, making me harder than it should, but time is literally ticking, as is Sienna’s patience with my games. Her shoulders tense, as if she is rehearsing all the ways she can tell me off in her head. I want all the time in the world with her, but I have a business to run, movers to keep moving, bodies to bury.

“Well, seeing as how you clearly didn’t need my assistance in this creepy warehouse, I’m going to see if Eric can swing back and bring me to the office,” she says, reaching for his phone.

“There is no service here,” I remind her.

“Fuck,” she exclaims, tapping her heel in frustration.

“Don’t fret, Ms. Ricci. I already radioed my driver Rufus who is waiting outside to bring you back to the office.”

I head to the small window toward the front of the warehouse to confirm that it is Rufus here to bring Sienna back to the office. I see Rufus’ grey hair from the driver’s seat.

Turning to Sienna, who looks absolutely exquisite, with her post-sex flush on her cheeks, I say, “I will see you out, so we can both carry on with our day.”

Once again, I come off much colder than I intended it to. It’s been so long since I have had to play this role that sometimes I forget what it feels like to not be a cold, ruthless, soulless killer. I want to apologize, correct my tone, but I opt not to. Instead, I sink into this role I have sadly perfected.

I walk Sienna to the creaky door, and as I open it, she takes the knob from my hand and clicks her heels past me, not giving me time to speak. I want to pull her in close and kiss her, but Rufus is already parked and waiting for her.

“Thank you, Ms. Ricci, I expect you will finish the work I gave you for today that’s already on your desk before our dinner meeting!” I shout at her back as she walks away, giving me a perfect view of her plump ass.

“I already have plans, sorry,” she shouts back, as she continues to strut away from me.

That’s what you think, mi reina.

Her hips sway exaggeratedly, as if she is putting on a show for me. I can tell she’s annoyed with me, but that’s ok, I can live with that. I’d rather have her angry where I can see her than broken where I can’t fix her.

Sienna stops as she opens the car door and nods to me, trying to mask her annoyance and gets into the car. I nod to Rufus as I instantly make my way back to the warehouse to radio Alex.

I hit the button to the direct line with Alex. I always hit the button for our initial line three times and wait. He will signal once if he is able to talk, twice if he is not. I wait, and after he hits the signal once, I switch over to our other line.

“Dude, what the actual fuck is going on?” Alex says the second I turn the channel.

“Sorry, I got caught up.”

“Yea, well, now isn’t the time to get caught up, as you like to put it,” Alex lectures me, speaking in a hushed tone.

“Ok, there is something else I am clearly missing, Alex. What’s going on?”
