“Wait, I have to say goodbye.” I head to pick up my phone, but it’s useless, even if there was service, the screen is shattered from Carmine chucking it on the concrete.

Carmine lowers his hand to where I am crouched down on the floor. “Leave it, Sienna.” He gestures to my broken phone. “Lana knows. She will take care of updating Vanessa when she can, and in time they will be able to visit,” he reassures me as I shift my weight to his hand to stand back up.

“Visit us where?” I ask.

Rose slams the door to the incinerator closed and its loud sound steals my attention. She walks over to me, opening her arms for an unexpected hug. She squeezes me before stepping back to take my face into her hands.

“Sienna, I know your life has been riddled with heartbreak. Just know that only you are in charge of writing your happily ever after. You are strong, you can and will do amazing things. Take care of my boy, he has waited what feels like a lifetime for you.” She smiles before dropping her sentimental demeanor and bringing back her usual intense one.

She gives Carmine a hug and then motions us to the back door of the warehouse. “Now, go, both of you!” she commands.

Carmine takes hold of my hand as we hurry our pace to the back doors. As soon as he presses his weight into the bar that opens the door, the sound of the helicopter is almost deafening.

As we approach the door to the helicopter, Carmine steps ahead of me to open the door. My eyes are met with Alex in the pilot seat, along with Nada who is sitting next to me excitedly wagging his tail.

“After you,mi reina.”

“Carmine, where are we going?” I ask with my foot on the first step leading into the cramped quarters.

“To live out our beautiful nightmare,” he says with a devastatingly beautiful smile.

Once seated, Alex wastes no time taking off to wherever we are headed.

Carmine rests his hand on my lap as my head falls on his shoulder.

“So, can we live like Jack and Sally if we want?” I tease, quoting our song.

He kisses the top of my head. “And we’ll have Halloween on Christmas, except this time, there will be no end, I’m never letting you go.”

Chapter53

Sienna

I look out the small window of the cramped helicopter to distract myself from the questions beginning to swirl inside my head.

“Where are we going?” My voice cracks slightly in anticipation.

“I told you, but first, we have to make a pit stop,” he says with a grin. His eyes practically beam with excitement at whatever he has planned.

Releasing my hand, he reaches for a cigarette. He flicks his lighter, letting the embers crackle on the end as he takes his first drag. Smoke billows from his mouth, filling the small space.

I’m about to make a smart-ass comment saying as much as I love him, I would prefer not to inhale his secondhand smoke. But even I know that is a lie. I would suck the cancerous smoke from his mouth without hesitation, and foolishly if the tables were turned, he would do the same for me. We’ve killed together, so what’s a slow, smoke-filled death together in comparison?

I lose track of time, lost in my thoughts and before I know it, I feel the ‘copter begin to descend. Still not sure of where we are going, I look out the window once more, and confusion smacks my tired brain when I see what appear to be tombstones. As our descent continues and the smog begins to separate, I realize my eyes are not deceiving me, we are surrounded by the distinct slate of gravestones.

“Where are we?” I ask already knowing the answer; however, I’m confused as to why this is our pit stop.

“Oh, come on, don’t act so surprised. Since when have you shied away from a little carnage, my macabre queen,” he says with a smile that makes my heart flutter with anxious arousal.

Once we land, Alex leaps from his seat and outside the still running ‘copter to let us out.

Carmine takes one last drag from his vanishing cigarette and tosses the butt out of the door, while Alex motions for us to come out.

Carmine grabs hold of my hand, bringing me closer to him. His eager lips make their way up to my ear. “Are you ready,mi reina?” he whispers in his seductive baritone.

“I guess,” I reply in a breathy tone, still reeling from the effect he has on my body.

“Come on, we have to pay our respects,” he states with a mischievous grin.
