He interrupts me, bringing his finger to my lips to quiet the doubt-filled words he already knows I am going to say.
I kiss his fingers that are draped over my mouth, which brings a wickedly beautiful smile to his lips. He moves his hand down, pulling my chin into his grasp. “How many times do I have to tell you, if you wrote it, then it’s perfect. You write from your soul, and your soul is worth sharing. Every deep, passionate, dark, intimate part.”
I roll my eyes and smile at him. His persistence, to drown in all parts of me, physically, emotionally, creatively, all of it, is just so him.
“Ah, fine, but it’s not finished yet, I’ll just pick a random paragraph.”
“Perfect, now, let me get back to what you so rudely interrupted before the girls wake up from their nap,” he says with a ravenous smirk.
He grabs hold of my wrist as he goes to kneel back down in front of me.
“Ouch, be careful,” I remind him, as I dart my eyes in the direction of the fresh ink on my wrist. With apologetic eyes, he gently kisses it, realizing he unintentionally scratched my latest tattoo.Ourlatest tattoo. It was an early anniversary present to each other. He got a hummingbird, and I got a hibiscus, both in the shape of a locket.
As he nestles himself once more between my legs, I glance at the monitor from the twins’ nursery to make sure they are still asleep. I turn down the volume, keeping the monitor in sight in case one of them wakes up. Not that we don’t have enough help if one of the girls does wake up. Titi Lana and Vanessa are here visiting for the week, to celebrate with us since Halloween is a busy time for our family. Not only is it our anniversary and Carmine’s birthday, it’s also the twins’ birthday.
As I begin to read to him, the heat from his mouth on my slit slips me into a pleasurable oblivion.
“Go ahead, pretty girl, don’t let me interrupt you.” He continues to move his warm tongue up and down my center, teasing me until I continue reading.
It used to be me reciting Poe while he fucked me with his tongue, but now that he is married to an author, he requests my work instead. An unusual, yet ego-boosting kink he has acquired. Personally, I’d rather hear any of Poe’s countless masterpieces read aloud any day of the week, over having to hear my own voice reciting my work. But he insists, so I gladly oblige him.
I settle on a random paragraph to read him from my latest work in progress. Concentrating is difficult as he dives into me with his tongue, but my eyes lock find a random paragraph and I begin reading it quickly before I come undone.
“Death came for me, swiftly in the night. I knew my fate was just around the corner, though its arrival was something I still didn’t anticipate. Death sunk its teeth into me, not by bullet, blade, or illness. Death came in the form of a man who stole everything away from me that I thought I wanted and in return gave me a gift I didn’t know I needed. A second chance, freedom, unconditional love. Death, sweet muerte, seeped itself into my bloodstream and in me now flows the crimson of a woman who can finally survive his skeletal grip.”
He dives deeper in between my legs before I finish reading, and I squeeze my thighs around his neck as I release on his face.
“Delicious as always,S. Schelectro,” he praises.I love when he calls me that.He helped me come up with my pen name, given our mutual love for all things Halloween and how so much of our lives have centered around it, we found it fitting.
“And perfect timing,” I say as I look at the monitor and see both girls waking up.
He stands up before kissing me on the forehead. “You stay and write,mi amor.I’ll take care of the girls.” He is about to walk to the door when he stops, turning back to face me.
“I almost forgot …” He motions to a wrapped present that I didn’t notice before in the corner of the room, by the gathered, tied-back curtains. He retrieves it, crinkling the wrapping paper as he hands it to me.
“Happy Anniversary,mi reina.” He kisses me, handing me the gift just as the girls begin to stir in their nursery.
“Come on, boy.” He claps his hands, waking up Nada, who has been sleeping on his bed in my office. He slowly wakes up, shaking his collar, before he trots over to Carmine.
Eagerly, I tear away at the gift wrap in anticipation as to what he got for our anniversary. We said no gifts, especially since he had Eddie fly out to do our tattoos for us yesterday. It has become an anniversary tradition for Carmine to fly Eddie out to tattoo us and to spend some time on the island.
I rip at the last bit of wrapping paper and my heart stops.
Tears begin to fill in my eyes as I stare at the painting that made my heart skip a beat all those years ago. The one hanging in Oogie’s, that Eddie’s wife, Maria, had painted. I run my hands over the canvas, admiring the simplicity of the painting. The hummingbird on its flower. The lover finding their home in their soulmate.
I look over to the monitor as I hear the twins cooing. Carmine begins getting both of the girls out of their cribs as he clears his throat.
He looks to the camera in their room, staring at me as I watch him on the monitor.
“I am the hummingbird; you are my beautiful flower. In life and death.Siempre. Happy Anniversary,mi reina. Thank you for igniting a fire in my soul, one that I would be nothing without.”
I put the canvas down on my desk and reach for the monitor. Carmine’s eyes are still on me, as he now holds both of our girls in his arms. I press the intercom button to speak.
“Happy Anniversary,mi amor.”
Carmine smiles before inching closer to the camera of the monitor. “I love you,mi reina. I have always and will always love you. Even when my body someday turns to ash, I will haunt your heart, so you will always have a piece of me with you.” He declares through the speaker.
Tears begin to form in my eyes as I press the button to speak. “There is no one I’d rather be haunted by … I am the needle …” I begin.
