"Normally you can't be tracked?" I ask, curious.
"I shouldn't be. I stay off the grid and go through phones almost daily. Even when they took my ID at the front desk yesterday to scan it, there was a protective film to block the picture. They never notice." He shrugs. "Small trick and such."
"So even if we do manage to get Lily, he'll track us."
"We have to be quick; no matter what, he will link this back to your home."
"Oh, I suppose I figured that, but I thought I could just be all, 'No trespassing, or I'll arrest you.'" Killian's lips twitch. “Yeah, I'm seeing that's not going to be working on you guys.” It sounded good in my head.
"I can put safeguards in to try and slow him down but, Teddy—" He grips my chin to turn my attention to him. "Tristan is not only a very wealthy man, but he is also a very connected man. You could call the police, but they won't show up. In fact, the FBI could show up and remove Lily themselves."
"They'd do that?"
"One girl isn't worth what Tristan can do for them. Not only that, he'd then owe them a favor. That can be priceless at times."
"Wow." I huff a breath. "I was going to suggest that Lily might be able to figure out how he's tracking you, but would it matter? It's not like I can never go home.” Anxiety starts to fill me.
"What Lily should try and figure out is if she can disengage locks. He's got her up in a high-rise. They aren't so easy to breach, but I could go in from the roof." He mutters the last part.
"How do you get to the roof?"
"There are ways." He turns his laptop to show me the blueprints to the building along with staff that work there, like the valet and doorman. There is also a kitchen staff that caters to all the residents. It's an okay tower to be trapped in, but I'm sure as hell not telling Lily that. Killian keeps going.
"If this was a normal businessman, I would try and bribe someone, but I bet Tristan already knows everyone's secrets in that building and has trust from the staff working in it. They’d snitch quickly."
"You're not giving me much hope here."
"We need to come up with a more integrated plan. Watch and figure out schedules and so on." Killian clicks through a few pages, and I don't understand most of what's on his screen. I do have to admit, it’s nice seeing him in his element. It’s another peek into his life.
"That sounds like it's going to take a lot of time." I fold my arms over my chest, wanting to punch Tristan in the balls. I wonder if Lily really knows how much of a captive she is. It goes far beyond the walls of their home.
Killian is quiet for a long moment before he leans back in his chair. "Unless we're simply easy chaos." His eyes flick up and down me.
"What?" I grab my boobs. I'm only in one of his shirts.
"You're chaos."
"Hey," I say defensively. "Wait, that might be a compliment."
"I find your chaos entertaining."
"Because I'm funny, right?"
"Hilarious."
"Why is your tone so flat? Like you don't mean it." Now I am getting defensive.
"Zolotse, I vow it; no one makes me laugh more than you." I glare at him.
"All right." I pick my fork back up. "But you better keep it that way." I peek over at him, and he's smirking at me. "Now what do you mean by chaos?"
“Tristan would expect me to have a smooth plan if I was going to break into his penthouse. What if it’s not so smooth? What if I have a tiara-wearing, lightsaber-wielding girl to cause a spectacle?”
“Oh.” I perk up at this plan.
“You’re a distraction but not a threat, keeping people's guards down but still intrigued enough to watch and engage.”
“I can cause a spectacle when I’m not even trying!” I’vesogot this, but Killian’s expression is changing quickly. “What?”
