“What the fuck?” Caroline looks at me, shocked. “Why did you do that?”
“He left us alone, didn’t he?”
My phone rings at my side. I’ve been at the garage most of the day and then had to stop by Sirens to check in on some shit before I’m heading back up to the grounds. I’m going to talk to Ella, really talk to her. We’ve been playing this will-they, won’t-they pull shit for far too long and she’s finally back now, so I’ve got to try.
Ash’s name is displayed on my screen and when I answer it, I can instantly hear the panic in his voice. “When’s the last time you talked to Ella?”
“This morning, she was going with Care to her appointment.”
“Yeah, no one has seen them since.”
“What?” I nearly shout, causing everyone to turn and look at me as I just walk out the front doors. “I’m on my way.”
“Head to the police station. We’re meeting with Jeff. he’s going to pull some cameras.”
“Good idea.” I mutter to him.
“Axe.” he calls out to me. “The tracker on the Jeep is dead.”
“Axe.” Jeff calls out to me as I rush into the precinct and he waves me back. “We have some of the traffic cameras up. We’ve got them arriving at the hospital.” He nods at me. “They’re sending over any footage.”
“Okay.” I nod at that moment, the doors open and Ash rushes in. His panicked expression matches my emotions. “We’re waiting for footage from the hospital.” I tell him and he groans.
“Fuck that.” Pulling out his phone, he makes a phone call. “Dan.” he mumbles and I can hear Dan’s groan from where I’m standing. He always hates hearing from us. “Look, you know I wouldn’t be calling if it wasn’t urgent. But it’s Caroline…” he trails. Just a bonus of her working at the hospital and everyone loving her. “We can’t find her. She had an appointment this morning and now she and Ella are gone.” another pause. “Okay, yeah. Jeff already called them. Thanks man, I owe you.” Hanging up the phone, Ash looks back at me. “He’s making some calls. The only thing he can really do is try to speed things up.” I nod my head.
“Anything can help.” I tell him as he nods.
“Got it.” Jeff calls out to us before he shakes his head. “I dunno who you called.” He nods back to Ash before we move over to where Jeff sits as we watch on the cameras as the girls leave. I can see Ella smirk over to her and then they are out the doors. We switch cameras to the parking garage as they leave and watch them get out. Ella backs the Jeep out of the spot and as she pulls off, she brakes quickly.
“He was already in the Jeep.” I mumble and they both nod before Jeff backs it up. We watch the recording in reverse. “Stop.” I tell them and let it play for a few minutes. There’s a slight movement off of the reflection of the car next to the jeep and then just barely you can see the Jeep shift as he gets in. “There. He knew where the cameras were at, but you can see the light shift on the adjacent car. You can see the Jeep move as he gets into it.” I take a deep breath, trying to compose myself. Jeff fumbles with a few more things before traffic cameras come up, we see something tossed out of the backseat window of the Jeep, and I don’t even have to question, I know if we go to the spot, it will be their phones. We follow the Jeep on the cameras until it moves outside of town.
“We have no more cameras out that far,” he tells us. “I have uniforms looking for it, though. I’ve called the state police.” He looks at us. “We will get them back.”
“Don't make promises you can’t keep.” I snap at Jeff as I move outside of the station. Ash comes out behind me.
“What are you going to do?” He asks, and I shrug.
“I don’t know, but I can’t just sit around here and do nothing.” Running my hand down my face, I take a deep breath before Ash screams out.
“Fuck!” He screams, punching the side of his truck. I watch as he pulls his hand back and see the dent is left in the side as Fury and Khan come sliding into the parking lot.
“Either get in, or follow us. I swear to god you don’t, I’ll drag your asses back myself.” I’ll follow you. Ash comes up to stand next to me and I know we are both glaring at him. “You two will not do any fucking good out there acting like idiots.”
“I can do this…” I tell him and he shakes his head. “I was trained—”
“No, right now, you’re emotional, you will not do shit out there emotionally reacting to everything.” exhaling, I look down, knowing that he’s right and I nod my head, looking over to Ash.
“Fuck.” Ash mumbles before he looks at me before walking back over to his truck.
“Shit,” I mumble before I glance up, nodding to myself. I brace myself on the beam above me and I kick at the window as hard as I can. It cracks and then breaks easily, and I continue to kick until all the glass is out. Taking as much as I can down to the frame of the window. “Okay, Care, go. Slide out. I’ll be right behind you.” I nod to her as she shakes her head. “Care go.”
“He took the keys.”
“I know where we are.” I tell her before I reach my hand out for her. She nods before she takes it, taking a deep breath, standing on the table and she moves. “Head to the road, turn left. When you get to the end, turn right.”
“Why are you telling me this?” She asks me and I just nod.
“Just in case we get separated.” I know it’s going to be a tight squeeze for me as well, but with her pregnant belly, I just pray that she can get out. But there is no way in hell I will let her stay here without me. She gets out first. Regardless of if I can or not… she will.
