… You’re in love with my daughter, aren’t you…
Everyone leaves the room. Oz looks back up at me, telling me not to leave. When Ash makes it through the door, he looks back. “Close it.” Oz tells him and I’m worried that I might die for a brief second. Ash looks conflicted, like he feels like he should stay when I look up to him and nod, telling him to leave.
The door shuts, and I see Oz’s pissed off face for a second. It slowly turns more concerned when he starts, “Why was she freaking out? Why did she feel unsafe?” He asks, and I look down.
“I promised her I wouldn’t tell you guys.”
“Goddamnit,” he slams his hand down on the table. “I know something was going on with my goddamn daughter. Which is the only reason I’m not ripping your head off your body and that I don’t want to fucking kill you right now. You say that it was her birthday. That’s when my daughter started coming back. That means that you started bringing her out of the shell that she was for months.” I nod my head. “Why was she in that shell, Axe?”
“She called me because she was scared. Oz,” I pause, worrying for a second about that whole shoot the messenger thing, “someone had shown up to the club that had hurt her.”
“How did…” he trails as he looks up to me and I know he understands I'm trying to tell him by my expression alone. He doesn’t say a word, but I can see the rage forming on his face as simultaneously the emotions form in his eyes. Taking a deep breath, clearing his throat, he looks back at me, clenching and unclenching his hands. “When?”
“I don’t think that’s going to help any.”
“Fucking hell, Axe.” He slams his fist so hard onto the table that it moves slightly. “You just told me that my daughter was…” he trails, not being able to say it.
“The night Ash got out of the hospital.”
“That fucking pussy she brought?” I nod my head.
“Yeah, she said she tried to report it. Was told that there wasn’t enough evidence and that his family had too much pull to file a restraining order.”
“Fucking worthless pieces of shits.”
“I agree. The detective told her that the defense would try to tear apart her life. Pick apart her character.”
“More like bringing her character into question because of who her family is.” I don’t confirm his thoughts, but continue to talk.
“The detective told her that this one might be best if you handled it.”
“So, what are we going to do to the fucking prick?” I laugh out, but I can tell by the look on his face that he isn’t joking.
“I told her I wouldn’t tell you guys. She claimed that something like a head on a stake to warn others what would happen.” It causes Oz to laugh out loud before his face grows serious and he looks at me again. “I suppose that her skipping town and refusing to answer her phone nullifies any promises made.” I see the sinister look form on Oz’s face again. It’s the same look that he had on his face before he ended up in prison a few years ago.
“You ready?” Oz looks at me as he steps into the kitchen and I just nod my head. We make our way out the back door as Ash walks up to the clubhouse and looks from Oz to me. Ash and I haven’t really spoken to one another since that day in the war-room, almost 2 months ago.
“Where are the two of you going?”
“Huh?” I look back at him. “Nowhere.” I can feel Oz cut his eyes on me.
“You’re not wearing your cuts. You’re leaving at the same time. What the fuck are you guys up to? Are you going to go get her?”
“No,” I just say before Oz glares at me again. Looking at him, I give him a look to tell him we should bring Ash along… at least Ash.
“It’s not a club thing.” Oz tells him before Ash just looks even more confused. “Fuck, you’re going to follow us, aren’t you?”
“Probably…” he shrugs as his phone is in his hands. I’m sure that he’s texting Khan.
“Fuck,” Oz growls, looking back at me and I just nod my head. “Drop your cut. Don’t ask questions.” He tells him before Ash nods and then turns, heading back to his house. Oz and I head over to my Jeep and get inside of it.
“It’s a mistake to bring him.” He looks over at me.
“Well, at this point it would be a mistake not to because he’s already curious enough he will follow us.”
“Caroline’s going to be pissed…” Oz trails, causing me to laugh out. Because it sounds like he is even afraid of her.
“Please, if Caroline finds out why we’re going out there, she’s going to be pissed that we didn’t bring her whether she’s 5 months pregnant with twins or not.” Oz laughs again before he looks over at me seriously again.
