“No,” I pause as I feel his questioning eyes glaring holes into me. “A quick death is too easy for him. No, I have every intention of stringing this out. Having him panicked, looking over his shoulder for when I’ll be there.” I laugh. “Started with carving rapist into his chest.”

He laughs out as he looks at me again. “You’re a sick fuck.”

“I know.” I laugh again.

“What did she think?”

“She doesn’t know. She begged me not to do anything. And I didn’t at first, but when she skipped town and no one hadheard from her for months. I stopped keeping the promise.” He nods his head.

“Why’d she take off?” He asks as we walk back into the building.

“I was an idiot.”

He just nods his head until he looks back at me. “How?” He pauses as he looks confused. “Oz said you ended up here because of something you did for him.”

“It was more of a thing we both did for each other.” I nod to him as his brows come together again, almost as if he’s piecing together everything.

“Axe, did you fuck my niece?”

“Shit.” I mumble. Looking back over at him, wide-eyed.

“Ha!” He laughs out as I look at him, lost. “Oz, let that shit happen?”

“Not really. It’s part of the reason she took off.” He nods again.

“Don’t let him scare you.” He laughs out. “Deep down, he’s a softy. As long as you’re a decent person. And between you and me. When he told me you were family. He wasn’t meaning the club. He was telling me you’re our family.”

“That's why you are so curious about why I'm here.”

“Yeah.”

“Axe.” The guard nods at me as I stand walking over. Shackled and then I’m walking out the door with the guard to the front.

“What’s happening?”

“You’re being processed. You’re out.”

The door opens as the sun blinds me and I walk out of the building towards the parking lot. Reliving every moment of the last two months for one last time.

I’m surprised when I see the black truck waiting on the other side of the gate as Ash glances at me.

“Get in.”

The rest of the ride back to the clubhouse is awkward. Silent.

Pulling the truck to a stop in front of the clubhouse, placing it into park, I open the door, moving out of it before he speaks.

“Ace and Remy took off.”

“What, when?”

“This morning.” I just nod my head again. He says nothing else before I push my way out of the truck and walk up to the back door. “Axe,” he calls back after me, “we’re good.”

“Yeah?” I ask him. It’s not hopeful because I know he doesn’t mean like we were.

“Yeah, I’m not sure that I can—”

“Yeah, I got it.” I walk into the house, up the stairs, and into my room.
