“How do you know?”
“Saw the track marks when I found her. Saw a fresh one today, found her kit, and trashed it all. But no actual drugs.”
He mumbles some incoherent words before he starts again. “Yeah, I can get some for you if you want.”
“I’ll hold off on it for now. Just needed to make sure I had all the options.”
“What made you take her with you?” he asks me as I start to stand up, and I shrug.
“No fucking clue.” I shrug not wanting to admit to them why I really took her in. I open the door, Fury follows me out of the office, and we walk back out into the bay. Ash moves from where he’s talking with Axe, and we hug again before I start to leave. “Oh shit, also…” I pause, trying to collect my thoughts as well as trying to talk myself out of asking what my subconscious took over to ask. “We’re talking about getting some merch and shit together. And we’re thinking about maybe getting some bandanas you guys ever gotten them? How’d they go over?” Not even sure why I’m asking about it.
“Nah—” Fury starts before Ash cuts him off.
“No, we did, I long fucking time ago.”
“We did?” Fury asks him and Ash nods his head again.
“I’ve only seen a few, but a few of the older guys had some.”
“Yeah, you know where they got them made at?”
“Nah,” I see a little bit of sadness wash over him. “Khan may know, but I’m pretty sure they were all ordered before he took over, back when Oz was VP.” I nod my head again to him, understanding, before I nod to the men, and kick back over my bike to head back to the clubhouse.
Chapter Five
SADIE
Sitting up in the bed, I look around the room, I feel like the space has been entered and I can’t really explain why.
The plate on the side table confirms my sixth sense. I roll over to it and can still feel the warmth to the food before I scarf it down. I can’t even remember when the last time it was I ate. Once I’m finished, I walk down the hallway, taking the plate back into the kitchen, and the woman in the kitchen smiles at me.
“Thank you.”
“Welcome.” Her voice is quiet as she speaks.
“Do you work here?” I ask her and she nods her head.
“I do, they would be lost without me.” She says causing me to laugh out.
“I believe that.” My laughter draws a smile on her face. “Is he here?” I ask, lowering my voice, she stops, glancing back at me, and shaking her head. “Do you know when he’s coming back?”
She glances back at me again before she laughs. “His whereabouts out of the realm of things that are my responsibility.” It’s still a whisper, but I can see the fear in her eyes. Her words say that she doesn’t push to find info that they don’t offer her.
“Are you afraid of him?”
“No. Ro is…” She trails as she looks away. Almost as if she’s trying to hide her fear. “As long as you don’t betray him.” My hesitation matches hers as I look around. What would he consider betraying him? “He’s loyal to a fault. He’s never had a family so this is everything to him.”
“What do you mean that he never had a family?” I ask her matching her volume, as I start to feel the slow ache spread up my body.
No, I should have more time.
This time I’m just going to power through it. I’m not going to give into it, this time, hopefully I can start to ween myself off before Ro notices.
For some reason I feel the need to stay on his good side.
And more importantly I need to keep my head clear so that I can get my life back together. Go back home and reconcile with my parents. Take care of my fucking responsibilities.
“He grew up in the system.” She says and I have to focus to be able to pay attention to what it is she’s saying. “All I know is that some shit went down with his last foster home. Fucked him up. I think that’s where he met Caroline.”
