“Nope.” He says from the front seat. “When you grow up with no one giving a shit about you, no one teaches you how not to get kidnapped.” His words sting as he says them and I’m not sure how to respond. “And I mean, you should know him, you tried to fuck him.” He mumbles, snidely back to me and I have no idea how to respond to that before the man from the driver’s seat laughs. I wish that the first part of his statement stung worse than the latter part.
“Well, that was a mistake.” I mumble, still staring at the ceiling. Ro’s quiet, relief-laugh from the front seat isn’t as quiet as he would like for it to be though.

RO
Pulling up to the clubhouse, the gate closes behind us, and I slide out of the SUV walking into the front door.
I can hear her feet behind me as I walk towards my room, so I leave the door open as I move through it.
Hearing the door close, I smirk to myself as I start to change out of the clothes that I’ve been in for the last 2 days. Pulling the shirt up over my head, and tossing it into the basket in the corner. Her feet no longer pattering behind me, then unbuckling my belt and letting my jeans slide down.
I notice the quiet gasp that comes from her, but I don’t turn around. Walking into the bathroom, I flip the shower on, and mostly just to fuck with her, I toss my boxers from the bathroom into the basket in the bedroom then step in the shower. The water is hot as it cleanses my damned soul.
I shouldn’t be surprised, but somehow, I still am when I hear the shower door open behind me. Her feet barely make a noise as she steps inside, and I have to focus to try and keep my cock from reacting.
“You shouldn’t be in here.” I finally say without turning around to look at her.
“Why?”
“After what happened last night, this is the last place you should be.”
“Maybe…” She trails as she continues to stand quietly behind me. “So, is that why you wouldn’t fuck me earlier?”
Her question causes me to completely freeze, losing my focus, and my dick reacts.
Not now.
“Partly.” I say, still not turning around.
“And what’s the other part?” Her voice is quiet and raspy as she says it. I can feel her hand on my back as she steps in close to me, coming too close for my comfort. I don’t answer her as I continue to just let the water run over me.
Maybe I need to switch to some cold water.
“Ro.” She whispers again. “Look at me.”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because you’re infuriating.” I pause as I take a deep breath. “Yet every time I look at you, you manage to break through my walls a little bit more.”
“And you don’t want me in?”
“No.”
“Why not?”
“Because no one is allowed in.” It’s almost not audible at all. As if with the noise of the water blocking everything else out, I can be completely honest with her.
Her hand comes up on my arm and she pushes against me, trying to turn me around. I resist for a moment before I give in to her. “Why?”
“Because I’ve never been able to completely trust anyone.”
“Not even Caroline?”
I can’t help but laugh out loud when she asks it. “Especially not Caroline.”
