I hear her laughing as she walks back into the kitchen with a couple of items, and she kneels down in front of where I’m sitting. “This is probably going to sting.” She laughs as she picks the tweezers up and I lift my foot for her to look at. I only wince out when the tweezers slip off of the glass and stab my foot even more. “Shit, sorry.” I just shake my head. I can feel every inch of the glass as she pulls it out, and even though it hurts, it’s not unbearable.

She laughs, shaking her head. And she actually pulls out a band aid and I laugh.

“What? You’re not going to walk around trailing blood everywhere. I mean we already made enough of a mess. It’s just for a little bit, until it stops…”

“Fine.” I shake my head as she smirks and then puts a goddamn band-Aid, that I wasn’t even aware I had in the house, on the bottom of my foot.

Chapter Sixteen

SADIE

“You ready?” Ro asks me as I turn and look at him. He’s been at the house with me for the most of the last 5 days and while I’m still not feeling back to where I was years ago, I am feeling more manageable. I’m not in pain anymore. I just catch my anxiety rising.

He sits the helmet on my head before he’s reaching underneath and clips it into place. He’s taking me out to the desert with him to see where he used to hold the races. That is before he was arrested. He said he just wants to go out to it to do some recon. See how the Marauders are using it.

I never heard them mention it.

“You’ve been out for a while, right?” I ask him as we’re staying on the side of the mountain and he’s looking towards the warehouse surrounded by a large fence.

“Yeah, why do you ask?”

“This is the first time you’ve been out here?”

“I’ve been busy.” I can’t help but laugh as I nod my head. I know where we are and just how close we are to Palm Springs, just how close we are to home and my family, but I’m not ready now. The courage that I was feeling last week when I mentioned it to him has dwindled all away.

I’m a coward again.

“Doing what?” It comes out of my mouth before I can stop it.

Slowly he lowers the binoculars and looks at me. “Well, I’ve spent the last few weeks chasing you around trying to get you to fucking like yourself.” I blush looking away and he laughs out. “But we had to plan a way into the clubhouse first to get the money. Before that we were trying to get things with the club squared away, trying to make a little bit of cash while remaining under the radar.”

“Why under the radar?”

“Because when they figured out that we formed a new club in the same city…”

“There will be blood.” I say, dramatically.

“Yes.” He answers assuming that I was asking a question, but I wasn’t I was simply repeated whathehad told me all that time ago. Ro’s not looking at me but still through the binoculars staring at the compound. “Fuck.” He mutters to himself.

“What’s wrong?”

“There’s guards.”

“Let’s go.” I say to him as he shakes his head.

“No way.”

“Why not?”

“Because I’m not letting you near danger.”

“Ro, I know how to shoot, I’m a fucking good shot, and I can defend myself.Hemade sure of it.” His face falls and I can still tell that he’s not excited about the idea. “He was terrified that I was going to end up getting kidnapped.”

“That’s a very real fear.” He nods his head as if he’s had the exact same concern.

“How many are there?”

“6 maybe more.” He says as he looks back over.
