SADIE

As I walk out of the room, I glance down the hallway until I see Enzo looking back at me. “If you want to tell them to bring them upstairs, I’ll start on the kuttes.” I tell him and he nods. “Also, Ro needs some getting him down.” He nods his head before pokes his head into the other room and I turn back to move up the stairs. When I get to the main floor, I look around the empty space and I try to think about the races. Seeing the cars lined up. I can only imagine what it looked like in here when it was used.

The van pulls into the warehouse and then a few men start to close the doors behind him. Cooper gets out of van and smiles at me. “Hey Sadie.” He hesitates for a second before he stops completely, looking around as if he’s uncomfortable. “Can I ask you something…?” He trails, making me laugh out.

“Yeah, Coop, I’m here because I want to be, Ro’s not J.”

He nods his head, giving me a small smirk, “Okay, I just needed to hear you say it.” He starts to walk away from where I’m at and stops again. “Please don’t tell him I asked you.”

“I honestly don’t think that he will care.” I shrug again. “He knows you’re looking out for me.”

“Yeah, that’s all I’m doing.” He says it, but it falls strangely.

“Cooper…” My sentence trail as I look over at him again. “Nothing’s changed.”

“I know.” He nods his head again.

“How’s Jen?”

“She’s good. She’s finished school. Moved up to Seattle. She’s engaged, getting married next summer.”

“That’s awesome.” I am happy for her, but my sentiments fall flat. She got a scholarship to Stanford and actually fucking went. Me, on the other hand, pissed away my senior year, being drunk and having to be pulled off tables. I’m pretty sure that Ella is the only reason why I’m fucking alive right now. When she left, I felt lost. She sent me one message after she left town, but even with my attempts of contacting her, I got nothing in response.

I had to leave; I’ll reach out soon.

But she never did.

He starts to walk away, “I’m sorry.” The words are quiet.

“It’s alright, Sadie. I knew what I was getting into.” He sighs, “I just couldn’t stop myself from falling in love with you.”

“You were never in love with me.”

“How do you know?” He laughs.

“Because I haven’t been the only one that you thought you were in love with.”

“That’s different?”

I laugh, “How so? Because it was years ago? And… never mind that will just hurt your feelings.”

“No, say it.” He starts to get defensive.

“You guys had parties because your parents were always gone. Either working, some crazy vacation, or wherever else they went.” I pause, inhaling quickly. “You mistake any sort of attention for love. You did it with me and you did it when you and Ella had sex as well.” Cooper kind of went off the deep end when Ella stopped showing up, then when he showed back up with Axe. I consoled him. So, does that make what I did to him even that much more fucked up? Absolutely, but I was hurt, in pain, and officially an addict. I just wanted to numb the emotions that I was feeling. Cooper happened to be there at a low point.

“Fuck you, Sadie.”

“I didn’t want to say it.” I hesitate but continue. “But you need to hear it. I just want you to be happy.” He continues to walk towards the stairs as I shake my head. He knew something was wrong with me after I showed back up from partying with the Marauders so when I dropped off the fucking Earth, he ended up coming back around. I only saw him a few times, though. J didn’t let me out of the room often, and it was only when he was home. He told me one time that he was going to get me out of there.

I sigh, hating myself slightly before I walk back over to the far wall, looking at the tools lining it one catches my eye and I smirk getting the idea. Rushing down the stairs and catching them before they get too far. “Ro.” I nearly shout out at him as the door swings open. “Put the kutte back on him.” I’m shouting as him and Enzo looks at me like I’m insane. “Just, trust me, I have an idea.” He slowly nods his head, reaching out for it and then they force his arms through it and let it hang on the corpse. I reach into Ro’s pocket where it always is and grab out his pocketknife.

Moving around Rabbi’s body I cut the back patch off and then holding the skin up, I position the staple gun and pull the lever down

I look back up to see Ro looking at me with a smirk on his face. “What?”

“Did you just staple it to his body.” I nod my head quickly as I mirror his expression. Strictly by the length of the staples along, it will take some muscle to get the kuttes off of them. Moving around to the front, I do the same, and he laughs again before they start to carry Rabbi away. Stepping out of the room, I hand Tally the staple gun, and then walk in the direction that Ro and Enzo were carrying the body in.
