“How are you going to do that?” the voice laughs next to me. “Look around you, how do you think you’re going to get out of this?”
Shaking my head, I try to focus in on something, anything, but all I see is a man kneeling down on the ground with his hands bound in front of him. I’m not sure of his name, or who he is to me, but seeing him there comforts me.
“Sadie,” My comfort voice calls out. He blows out a puff of air and liquid blows off of his face as well. “I’m sorry. Just know that I have done everything I can to get you out of there.” He looks at me and although I can’t focus in on his face, I see the look in his eyes as he locks them with mine. That look that you only give people who you are actually in love with.
“Looks like you fell short.” The voice says next to me, and I sigh, looking up at him, feeling a sense of dread crawling up inside of me.
“I never fall short, Trust me.” The man on his knees says so matter of fact that I’m sure he’s going to rise up to his promise.
“I love you, Nightmare.” The man who kneels in front of us all says, looking only at me. My heart drums in my chest and it aches through my body.
“I love you, too.” I whisper to him. I may not remember who he is, but the way that my body is reacting to him, I don’t question, whoever he is, I already love him. He shakes his head and more liquid flings off of him.
“Awe, isn’t that sweet.” The voice says next to me, still with a hand gripping my arm so I can’t get away. “To bad it’s the last time that you’ll ever say it to each other.” A menacing laugh follows.
“J.” Another one of the men who stands around me looks over. “Don’t you think this may be—” He suddenly stops his sentence, I’m assuming ‘J’, as he called him, gave him a look, but I can’t take my eyes off the most beautiful man I’ve ever seen.
“Don’t give up on me, yet.” He whispers it to me, so quietly that J and the man he’s arguing with behind me don’t hear him. Nodding my head, I tell him okay. “Don’t watch.” He shakes his head, never taking his eyes off of me. A single tear falling from his eye. “I’m so fucking sorry.”
J starts to snap at the man on the opposite side of me. “Someone’s coming to get you out of there.” He tells me, reassuring me, and confirming my thoughts that the man who claimed to be my boyfriend is lying and the dread he brings me is warranted.
“Well, you’ve had enough of this moment.” J shouts as he lets go of my arm, I’m about to try and fight off the other man when someone else replaces his hand, holding me in place. “This is what you fucking deserve. See how much you like this.” He laughs out, nodding over to a second man and turning around starting towards where I stand, held in place.
I hear a slight ting as a lighter opens and I watch him toss it.
The ground ignites and instantly rushes up its path.
I’m being pulled backwards towards the SUV again and shoved into the door.
“No!” I scream out as loud as I can, the volume strains my vocal cords and I’m not even sure why I’m so upset. But the image is seared into my mind. A sob breaks through.
I can hear the scream echo, even though the car’s windows, as the flames quickly engulf his body, and we move away from him. He jumps up off of his knees, starts to run, but collapses on the ground. They’re just going to leave him in the desert.
The tears are flowing down my cheeks as I continue to stare out the back window until I can’t see anything and J looks back at me, forcing my head around to look at him and a grin on his face. Curling up into a ball, I lay down on the back seat as the sobs start to consume me for the man I can’t remember.
Chapter Thirty-Four
I’m shaking from pain. The memories comes flashing through my mind until they shoot open. I can see Sadie’s eyes as she understands what’s about to happen. I remember asking myself why she just wouldn’t look away.
My eyes shoot open and I’m looking around the room. “Get her.” I snap.
“Ro.” Venom gasps, setting his feet on the ground of the room. I have no fucking clue where we are. It’s not a hospital. He’s staring at me.
“Get her back.”
“We’re already on it. Tally’s looking for them.” He pauses.
“Linc?”
“He’s safe.”
Rage fills me, J will fucking die a slow and miserable death. I have so many questions that I need answered. Where are we? How long has it been? But probably more importantly…
Why am I not dead?
TO BE CONTIUNED…
