“I know.” He says, quietly. “And I know how you’ll treat her. It just pisses me off I can’t hate it.” Clearing his throat, he pauses again. “I’m not saying you and I are good yet.”
I don’t say anything, just nod.
“But I guess I’m saying I’m okay with it.” He sounds confused as he says it.
Nodding my head. “Thanks.” I’m not sure how I feel at the moment because, as happy as that should make me, there’s still the massive weight of shit that’s going on. “I guess we should head up there?”
He nods before we both head to the door, walking out and back down to the truck. He tosses me the keys and slides into the passenger seat.
As I pull out of the drive, he laughs. “I’m still gonna kick the shit out of you for everything.”
“Obviously.”

This time I follow behind him as we walk into the hospital. Making our way until we see the waiting room split in half.
It’s fucking comical. On one side, the entire MC sits. On the other side, there’s people who don’t want to make eye contact with the opposite side.
Z just shrugs as he looks at me.
A few of the guys nod as I walk over with Z. Ace walks over to me, hugging me, and pulling back, but not saying a word.
“You know.” Jag starts as he looks over at me. “You were right about one thing.”
“Yeah, what’s that?”
“Too fucking stubborn.”
The entire group chuckles before I’m leaning over and brace myself on my thighs.
“You guys hear anything about Low, yet?” I look over. “You know that’s gonna be the first thing she asks about.”
“Shh,” Liv shakes her head before she nods at the couple walking past the waiting room. They glare at us before continuing.
“Her parents?” I ask her.
“Yeah,” she nods. “I tried to ask them and you would havethought I’d shot her.”
“Eli…” Zeke looks over at me after the entire group has sat for what seems like hours in complete silence. “So, you guys were broken up when Z got home, right?”
“Yeah,” my voice is quiet.
“But you were both at the party; how did we not notice anything?”
Liv laughs this time, causing a few people from the ‘don’t look over there’ side to break their rule. “Because none of you were paying attention.”
“What?” Zeke asks her.
“Yeah, they were like fucking opposite poles most of the night.”
“What?” someone asks. I’m not really sure who at this point.
“Magnets.” I mumble out.
“Yeah. It was like they had to maintain a 50-foot barrier.”
I watch as Z’s brow furrows, and he tilts his head. Before he looks over at me, and I realize what’s happening. He’s connecting dots of things I’ve previously told him.
