“I was on my period, okay?” tossing my hands up as I turn away from her.

We’re quiet for a few minutes until we’re back over at the table, in front of the books.

“Are you…”

“What?”

“…in love with him?”

“I — I don’t know.” I whisper, not able to give her any other answer.

She doesn’t respond this time, which is rare for her, so I look up and she’s staring back at me, smirking.

“What?”

“Nothing.” She shakes her head. The sound of the bike’s engine coming closer as she nods, telling me she knows just how full of shit I actually am.

The lights flicker behind me as I groan out. I was probably speeding, but seriously, it couldn’t have been that fast.

Rolling my eyes, reaching over to my purse, pulling out my wallet, and setting it on the center console. I crack my window as I can see whoever it is approach and hear him speak.

“You know why I pulled you over?”

Just the sound and demanding tone in his voice, makes my stomach tighten.

Turning my head and looking at Eli through my lashes, I play innocent.

“I have no idea.”

“License and registration.” He states.

Leaning over, pulling on my skirt making it rise higher, I open the glove box, producing my registration from it. Rolling down the window completely, I hand them to him.

“Miss Anderson, where are you coming from at this speed?”

“Um…” I can’t think of an answer.

“Knowing your family, I would feel safe assuming you’re coming from the street race, which was just broken up.”

“What?” I gasp out. “No.”

“Racings in your blood, isn’t it?” He looks at me, making me smirk. “Like mother, like daughter.”

“I wasn’t.” I play along, curious about where this is heading.

It makes him laugh loudly as he looks back. At what? I don’t know. Maybe the dash cam, or maybe he’s just looking around to make sure no one can see us.

“Yes, Miss Anderson. I’m gonna need you to turn the engine off and step out of the car.”

“What?”

“You heard me.” He snaps, staring down.

Killing the engine, I grab my bag and do just as he asks.

“Come to the back of the car and put your hands on the trunk.”
