By the time we’re finished for the day, I’mexhausted, and it’s almost time to go pick up Finn and Farrah from school. This completely derailed my day. Normally, I work on the farm side of my business while Alicia handles the camp stuff. My ranch hands can handle most things if I’m not there, but I’d have much rather been out on Sir today than dealing with this shit.
I don’t want to tell Farrah what happened today, but I refuse to keep secrets from her. That’s a fast track to ruining a good thing. At least I can tell her they managed to get some DNA swabs. We know Alex is in the system, so if it was him, they’ll get a hit.

“Okay, Finny. What do we have left to organize?” Farrah asks, glancing up from her notepad.
Finn tilts his head, tapping his chin as he thinks. I smirk at Farrah, her eyes gleaming with laughter as she tries to hold it in. We’re sitting at the dining room table, working through the last-minute plans for Finn’s party. “I think that’s everything. We’ve got food.”
“Check,” Farrah confirms.
“Daddy is going to pick up the balloons and cake tomorrow.”
“Check.”
“Everyone’s jackets and glasses arrived.”
“Yep.”
“I think that’s it.” He grins.
“This is going to be so much fun.” Farrah’s smile is as big as Finn’s. I think she might be more excited than he is about his party. It’s been the perfect thing to keep our minds off the looming threat that’s been hovering over us since Alex broke into the cabin.
Farrah took the news better than I expected. She tried toapologize, but I stopped those thoughts the second they came out. None of this is her fault. She didn’t ask her bastard of an ex to terrorize her.
Then I promptly ate her out until she could barely remember her name. It was a solid end to a day that sucked ass.
The past few days have been quiet. Finn and I have both gotten very used to having Farrah in the house every day. He told me how much he likes having Farrah here one night when I was putting him to bed. I agreed with him completely.
It’ll be weird when we go back to her staying at her own house every night instead of being here. I thought we’d have a couple of growing pains with her being around all the time, but it’s like we’ve been living together for years. Even when she gets annoyed with my grumpy behavior, I don’t find myself wishing she’d go home. I end up making it my mission to make her laugh after I’ve been an ass.
Whiskey fits in like he belongs here too. Finn’s obsessed with that cat. It seems the feeling is mutual. Whiskey sleeps in his room every night and has become almost protective of my son.
Finn suddenly launches himself into my lap, surprising me out of my thoughts. “Thank you, Daddy. I can’t wait for my party.”
I squeeze him to my chest. “You’re welcome, buddy. I hope you have the best day.”
“Can we have ice cream for dessert?”
“Sure. Go pick out what you want from the freezer.” I gesture to the fridge with my head. He runs off to the kitchen, looking entirely too big to still be my baby boy. Farrah tucks her hand into mine, offering me silent support. “He’s been my whole world since the moment I held him. How has it gone by so fucking fast?”
She wraps her arms around my biceps, laying her head on my shoulder. “Time is a cruel mistress. It never ceases to amazeme how quickly it flies by. Thank you for letting me be a part of this.”
I kiss her on the forehead. “In my wildest dreams, I didn’t imagine being this happy. You’ve brought more joy into our lives than I could have thought possible, Princess. I should be the one thanking you.”
She hugs me tighter, and I know nothing will ever compare to this feeling.
CHAPTER 41
Farrah
“It’s party day!” A bouncing ball of boy flies into our bed, scaring the daylights out of both of us. A soft meow follows him into the room. Whiskey doesn’t attempt to get on the bed, choosing to cuddle in the chair in the corner instead.
Knox groans. “The sun is barely up, bud.”
“Sorry, Daddy. I’m just so excited.”
Knox lifts the covers to invite him to snuggle in bed with us. He wiggles his little body around until he’s comfortable.
