“In more ways than one,” I returned just as calmly.

The tension stretched. Finally—she stepped back. Just one step but it was enough for me to know that I got under her skin.

“Enjoy it while it lasts,” she said in her snooty voice, smoothing her hair back. “This little confidence thing you got going on.”

I shrugged lightly, unfazed. “I always do.”

Her eyes lingered on me one more second before she turned, heels clicking sharply against the floor as she walked out. Bianca scrambled to follow behind her like a lost puppy.

The second the door closed, Ronnie turned to me “Bitchhh!” she grabbed my arm, "You shoulda let me smack her ornery ass," she sneered.

I exhaled, letting some of that tension roll off my shoulders. “Calm down That's what she wants. We not letting her blow our bag over her ego."

"Sis—I'mtrying." Ronnie breathed out slowly.

Wisdom shook her head slowly. "She is a fucking nuisance.”

Lena exhaled. “I thought y'all were about to fight.”

“They still might,” Wisdom muttered, side-eyeing me slightly.

I dropped back onto the couch, picking my glass up like nothing happened, crossing my legs again as the breeze from the balcony brushed against my skin. “She don’t want that,” I said simply before taking a sip.

Ronnie plopped down next to me, still buzzing. “So…what made you even mention Boss?”

“She was talking a little too crazy,” I said casually.

But Ronnie wasn’t buying it. “Nah…that wasn’t just that,” she leaned closer, squinting at me.“You tryna get him?”

I let out a quiet laugh. “I don’t gottatry." I turned my head towards her. "Whatever I want comes to me."

Ronnie laughed. "That's my bitch," she squeezed my thigh.

Wisdom watched me closely before speaking again, "Careful, GG. I've met women like Monroe before. She won't go down without a fight. Trust me."

I shrugged easily. "Fighting over a man is below me." I frowned. "But fighting over a bag…" my face hardened, "she betta stay outta my way."

Chapter 12

Ilooked down at my phone where Eva had sent me yet again another link to some overpriced ass resort. I told her to get whatever, but she liked to get my opinion on shit just to do what she wanted to do anyway.

Shaking my head, I clicked on the link. I scrolled quickly and clicked on the prices. $1500 a night. Fuck it. If it made her and the twins happy, I was with it. I hearted the message in response and slid the phone in my pocket.

Flipping down my visor I checked myself out in the mirror. Smoothing down my beard, I reached in my glove compartment and spritzed on some cologne. Taking a deep breath, I stepped out the car and made my way towards Siren House.

Once I was cleared by security, I walked in. The hostess gave me a smile as soon as I walked in. I never bothered to learn their names, but I glanced at her nametag this time. "How you doing, Tessa?" I asked.

She blinked in surprise, her face lighting up. "Very well, Mr. Avery thank you. Madam had dinner catered from this amazing place for our guests. Would you care to grab some food before your appointment," she asked graciously.

The food did smell good, but I wasn’t trying to fuck on a full belly, so I shook my head. "I'll pass but thank you."

"Of course." Her eyes went down to her tablet and she clicked the screen. The smile dropped from her face. She blinked quickly, her finger poised over the screen.

"Everything okay?" I asked leaning in closer.

She looked up quickly, smile returning. "Everything is all good. Sorry about that. Your companion is just finishing up, but she'll be right with you. Would you like to wait at the bar?"

I shook my head again. "Nah, I'm cool. I'll wait right here." I took a seat on one of the velvet chairs in the waiting area looking around. I wasn't sure why the hell I was nervous, but I was. I rubbed my hands together, head dropped down as I waited.
