Adriana wrinkles her nose, picking up on the staleness as well. “I’ll have one of the girls sent up right away to open the windows.” She walks deeper into the room, inspecting every surface as she goes. “It was cleaned this morning, but it seems it’s been an age since the windows were opened.” She heaves a deep sigh as if this is a personal attack on her. “Anyway, this is the receiving room” She gestures at the sofas that sit facing each other with a low table placed between. “Through that door is the bedroom, where you’ll also find the washroom and wardrobe.” She briskly walks across the room to where deep golden floor length curtains hang. She throws them open, revealing a set of glass double doors that lead to a balcony overlooking what looks to be gardens.

Adriana opens the doors, so they sit ajar but doesn’t walk out onto the balcony.

“Do you have any questions for me before I leave you to settle in?” she asks with an expectant face.

“Um, I don’t know. I don’t think so?” I don’t even know what to ask, but even if I did, I’m a bit too intimidated by her to ask.

“Right, well if you think of anything let me know. If you need anything, any of the palace staff will be happy to assist you.” Without even giving me a chance to respond, she whirls around, and marches back out the door of my room into the hallway, the doors swinging shut behind her.

Well, she’s certainly pleasant.Remind me to never get on her bad side.

The second I’m alone, my body deflates. I let my body flop back onto one of the sofas and sink in. This is… a lot. I don’t know how I’m going to adjust. Am I making a mistake?

I’m moments away from free falling into a mental spiral when there’s a quick rap on the door.

“Ugh, come on Adriana. You only just left, what else do you have for me?” I mutter as I drag myself to standing and walk to the door.

Opening the door, it’s not Adriana that I find standing in front of me. Instead, it’s a tall, dark, and handsome male who has absolutely no business being here.
