“Nope, I’ve just been waiting on the only man I’ve ever loved to claim me.”
“You mean like I just did on national television?”He moved his body against hers on the side of his truck and her arms looped around his waist, pulling him close. Then he slid one hand up to cup her face while the other gripped the back of her neck and he moved his lips down to capture hers in a thirsty kiss.
“What took you so long?”She breathed between sweeps of her tongue along his lower lip.
“I’m sorry about that.I was trying to be what you said you wanted but then I realized I needed to be more of what you deserve.”
“And what’s that?”
“The kind of man who adores you, defends you, and tells the world he’s madly in love with you, unapologetically.”
“That does sound nice, especially that professing your love for me on national television after you win your first big game part.”
“Oh well there is a lot more of that to come.”
“I love you too,” she said between delicate kisses.“I’m sorry I pushed you away.I don’t think I was ready to believe I was good enough until I heard you say you were going to choose me no matter what on the radio.”
“You are more than good enough, and I think I know how I can convince you a little bit each day,” Renn said, leaning his forehead against hers.
“That sounds nice, but there’s only one problem.”
“What’s that?”
“I’m going to miss you too much during football season.”
“Maybe you can come on the road with me a little bit?Because I don’t want to spend any more time apart than we have to.”
She nodded.“I guess you could come back and live with us at Dixon Ranch, but I think my little brother might get more obsessed with you than he already is.”
Renn held her close and spun her around. If someone had told him he was going to get everything he ever wanted and meet the woman of his dreams when he finally faced his past in Sandy Point, he never would have believed it.But he wasn’t mad about being wrong.
CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE
Miranda & Renn
Miranda & Renn
“Are you sureyou don’t want to go out for brunch?Your teammates said the place had the best French toast in the city,” Miranda whispered as she sank her head back into a plush pillow.
She was lying in Renn’s bed, in his new house in Atlanta. After it was announced that he was the new quarterback of the Aces he had to move out of his condo.Apparently, fans were swarming the building and management couldn’t deal with it.Now they took turns staying at her place during the week and his on the weekends.
“No, I’m not letting you out of this bed, all day,” Renn said from underneath the covers, where his mouth was hovering over her stomach and his hands gripped the top of her sleep pants to peel them down her hips.
“As much as I like where your head is at, literally, that might be a problem.”
He groaned.“Why?”
“Because your family is arriving this afternoon.”
Renn pulled back the covers.“Why?”
“Because I invited them.”
“But there’s no game this weekend?”
“But tomorrow is your birthday and we wanted to celebrate with you tonight. And I don’t care if you don’t like a big party, or presents, or cakes with candles.I’m throwing you a birthday party and you’re going to like it.”
She could feel the smile spread on his face with his lips pressed against her skin.“How’d you know it’s my birthday?”
