I hum in thought. “Queen isn’t so bad.”

“Very well. What, praytell, is troubling you, my queen?” He backs me up and pins me to the side of his car. His hard body pressed to mine. The hand of his good arm braced to the roof beside my head while his other arm, in a sling, is squeezed between us.

“You need to be careful with that shoulder. It’s my fault you’re out for the season. I don’t want to be the reason it becomes career-ending.”

“Aw. You worried about me?” His tone is sarcastic and a little patronizing. True Trent Brewer form. But instead of it irritating me, I find it endearing.

It’s the glint in his hazel eyes. It’s changed. The reaction he’s trying to get from me is different now.

“Of course, I’m worried about you. I care about you.” I slide a hand up his toned obliques and lay my palm on his firm chest, over his heart.

Our eyes lock and the world around us disappears. “How did I survive before you? Now that you’re here, I can’t imagine a life without you.” Trent moves to brace his forearm on the car and uses his hand to brush the locks of hair falling from my droopy ponytail behind my ear. When they’re secured, he continues to trace the angles of my face, running his thumb over my eyebrow, cheekbone, and around my hairline. When his hand finishes its tour, his lips take the same journey.

My heart skips happily between my lungs deprived of air. Afraid to breathe and break the spell of this perfect moment.

Trent’s lips find my earlobe. He traces the shell with his nose. With a warm, gentle breath on my ear, he whispers, “I love you, Meghan Hill.”

Air rushes into my lungs.

There’s no way to misinterpret it this time. The question is do I have the courage to say it back?

Trent leans back to look me in the eyes again. No pressure. No expectation. Any fear I had disappears when he bumps his nose into mine and starts to kiss me slowly.

When he breaks the kiss and presses his forehead to mine, I bump his nose back. Brushing my lips on his, I whisper, “I love you, Trent Brewer.”

Our mouths come together in a fury of lips and tongues, starving for each other’s breath.

Trent grips my nape, fingers tangling in my hair as I sling my arms around the back of his neck.

When he breaks the kiss this time, he pants and grumbles, low and lusty, “I’m going to take you back to my room now. Strip you bare and bury my cock so deep in your cunt it becomes a part of you you can’t live without.”

I can’t help worrying about his shoulder or the assignment I abandoned to come here, but I also don’t want to argue. My pussy wouldn’t let me even if I tried, wet and desperate to have him inside me. “I’ll drive,” I say, breathless.

Trent plucks his keys from the side pocket of his duffle bag and hands them to me.

The drive to Trent’s place is excruciatingly long. The entire way, his hand explores my thigh. Drifts up until his pinky bumps the V between my legs, exciting my clit.

I should scold him for distracting the driver but I don’t want to lose the warmth of his touch for even a second. I keep my eyes glued to the road.

Somehow we make it safely to his reserved parking spot outside his apartment building. I followed his directions but he’ll have to give them to me again if he ever wants me to find my way back here on my own.

“Leave it,” Trent says when I reach back to grab our bags out of the backseat.

I lock the car and meet him in front of it. With his hand planted firmly on my lower back, he guides me into the building and down the hall.

Taking the keys from me, he unlocks the door to his apartment. Inside, there’s a large common area with a couch and chairs in the center facing a big screen TV, hanging between two windows over a cabinet full of movies and video games. To our right, following one corner of the room is a kitchenette. Sink, fridge, countertops, and cabinets above and below. A microwave but no oven or stove or hot plate. To our left are shelves full of books and a table and chairs that could double for dining and studying. Considering it’s covered in empty food wrappers and red plastic cups, I’m guessing it gets used for one more than the other.

And it’s then that the guilt of putting off my assignment hits me. I can’t ignore it any longer.

“It’s a mess, I know but can you really expect anything else from four dudes living together?” Trent jokes when he notices my grimace.

“It’s not that.” I let out a heavy sigh. “With everything that’s been going on, I’m behind on an assignment due Monday morning.”

“Say no more.” Trent crosses in front of me. With one hand, he starts clearing the table. “You get started. I’ll order pizza and send Hudson a message for him and the others to keep quiet when they get here.”

“Trent, no. I can go back to my room. No need for all of you to uproot your lives to accommodate me.”

“Then we have a real problem because I’m not letting you out of my sight. As soon as you finish your work, I’m dragging you to my bed and making good on my promise.” Trent grips my ass, pulling me to him, pressing and grinding his erection against my lower stomach. Smacking my ass, he says with a smile, “Better get started.”
