I resume rubbing my fingers on Dacen’s waist. His warm skin is calming. I catch his eye and smile lightly. “I’ll go.”
His face lights up and my heart skips a beat. He searches mine then, like he’s looking for signs I’m joking. “Really? But I lost the bet.”
I shrug. “I ain’t got nothing better to do that weekend.”
Dacen tilts his head to the side. His eyes pierce me and my heart thumps in my chest. “You don’t even know which specific weekend it is.”
“Okay. Which weekend is it?”
He tells me the date. No idea if I actually have any plans already, but even if I do I’ll make it work. Nathan won’t mind if I need to skip out early or not work at all that day, not for this. I lean forward and press a soft kiss under Dacen’s ear.
“Like I said, I ain’t got nothing better to do that weekend.”

Ryne
Istep away from my phone the following Saturday afternoon to help Lily carry the groceries in and to grab a quick shower, and this is the shit I come back to.
ROMAN: We’re playing laser tag this afternoon. You already ditched us earlier this morning, Ryne. You’re coming.
EVAN: Yeah, what the hell was that all about?
ROMAN: He was having breakfast with his honey.
TYLER: Between that and him zoning out last night when we were playing Midnight Carnage IV… I’m flipping you off right now, Ryne.
My friends are a bunch of asshats.
ME: Really, Ty?
TYLER: You were too caught up thinking about dimples to pay attention to the guys shooting at you on-screen.
TYLER: I only approve of half of that.
ROMAN: Anyone else notice he didn’t correct my use of the word HONEY?
EVAN: Dude, how are you so whipped yet you claim you’re not even dating him? Although he does have a nice smile so, meh, whatever.
Dacen has the best smile, but those are so NOT the dimples that had me preoccupied last night while I was attempting to keep up with the guys gaming. Months ago I’d wondered whether or not he’s got a matching set of dimples near his cute ass. Turns out he does, and I’ve become thoroughly acquainted with them. I smirk to myself and type out a response.
ME: I hate y’all.
ROMAN: You’re still coming.
ME: I have to be back by six.
I am definitely not telling them why I have to be back by six.
TYLER: Any chance you can borrow your aunt’s car and drive? My dad took the Jeep this morning and isn’t back yet.
I glance out the window and see Lily’s car still in the driveway. She usually doesn’t care if I take it as long as I leave her my truck key in case she needs to go somewhere.
ME: Yeah. Shouldn’t be a problem.
ROMAN: Honey? Still nothing?
EVAN: Dude.
