Dacen’s jaw clenches tightly and I plop my head back against my seat. “Fuck.” I glance over at him, and his nostrils are flared, and hot fury blazes in his eyes. Is that anger toward me or Bryce? Or maybe both? I’m the biggest dickhead in the entire universe.
“So you’re telling me you treated me like shit because of this? Because of a lying douche canoe? Jesus Christ, Ryne. I had a freaking panic attack during our scrimmage the last day and had to dip out because I was so upset.”
I want to throw up.
“And this is why you acted like a complete dickhead to me once I moved here, from the first moment we saw each other at tryouts and for the longest time after? Because I supposedly stood you up on some date I didn’t even know about? You didn’t think to, oh I don’t know, ask me about it that night at camp? Or at any moment thereafter? You just had to go all silent treatment on me. Well, after telling me to fuck off, that is.” I open my mouth to respond but he cuts me off. “There’s this thing called communication. You should try it sometime.”
“Dacen, I… Shit, I’m sorry.”
He turns to face forward and sits there in stony silence. The fury rolling off him in waves is nearly tangible and the air becomes stifling. I reach for his arm and he yanks it away and crosses them over his chest. When it’s clear he’s not going to talk anymore, I turn the truck back on and just drive him home. He gets out and shuts the door without another word. I watch him walk up the sidewalk, hoping he’ll turn around, look at me, give me something to go on. He doesn’t look back once.

Dacen has barely spokento me the last two days. My stomach’s worked itself into one giant knot and I’ve been distracted at school and during practice. Each night I’ve holed up in my room, glaring at anyone who tries to come in and talk to me. It’s been awkward during class and at our lockers, but the attraction and pull between us is as strong as ever, relentless even with the tension. Maybe even more so because of it. There’s this constant force vibrating between us. It’s kind of like when you try to push the same side of two magnets together, and they push and push to get away from each other, but then in the commotion, one of them somehow flips around and they violently collide.
The house is quiet this weekend. Lily and Rylee are out shopping and Nathan is at work. I have the day off to work on a paper that’s due early next week. I’m halfway through it and my attention wavers when there’s movement outside the window. I pull the front door open just as Dacen has his hand raised to knock on it. His features are dark and stormy, not at all like my normal Dacen. We stand here, staring at each other, not speaking. I don’t know what to say. I’m not good with words, and I clearly fucked things up royally from the very beginning. Dacen’s brows pinch together and he frowns. I step back and wave him in.
“What’s, uh, what’s up, D?” Something dark and hot flashes across his face, and my dick immediately responds.
“Nothing.”
Uh, okay? I rub the back of my neck. “I’m just working on a paper.”
“You’re here alone?”
I nod slowly as I shut the door behind us. Dacen stands there, eyes dark, jaw set in a tight line, chest heaving, and then he’s all over me. He shoves me up against the closed door and gives me a kiss so bruising and punishing it’s almost feral. The force of it takes my breath away and we’re both panting hard when he wrenches his mouth from mine. He grabs the front of my shirt and yanks me forward, claiming my mouth again.
“Dacen, what’s—” I try to ask between kisses but I can’t get more than a couple of words out. We stumble up the stairs, groping and kissing, and crash into the banister a few times because he won’t remove his lips from mine. By a miracle, we make it to my room unharmed and without breaking anything in the hallway, then tumble onto my bed. He climbs on me and kisses me again, grinding his hips down. The pressure and friction is in-fucking-sane and oh so good, but I’ve never seen him this rough and aggressive before. It’s like he’s taking his anger out on my mouth and my dick. He pulls away far enough to strip his clothes off and I immediately follow suit.
“Oh God, D,” I groan into his mouth when he resumes his position and goes right back to rubbing all up on me. I run my hands up his sides but he reaches down and smacks them away. “What the fuck?” I growl into his mouth.
He leans back and scowls at me. “Fuck buddies don’t really need to touch like that.”
My nostrils flare and I grit my teeth at his words. It pisses me off, but I’m the one who called him my fuck buddy in the first place so what the hell can I say to that? Jack shit, that’s what. He flops down next to me on the bed and motions for me. I settle over top of him and lean down to suck on his nipple. His back arches and our dicks brush together and we both moan, but he pushes my head away and makes a ‘turn around’ motion with one finger. I raise my eyebrow and he raises one back, then makes the motion again.
“I want you to fuck my mouth and suck me off at the same time, Ryne, if that wasn’t clear.”
I stare at him long and hard, and then turn around and get into position to do what he wants. This is fucked up, the way he’s acting is not him at all, but it still feels fucking good. I kiss his inner thigh and then take him into my mouth as he mercilessly sucks and licks and teases my balls and then draws me into his mouth. The angle is a little weird like this, but I do what he wants, best as I can. I slowly rock my hips and slide between his lips, in and out, slowly and then faster. I keep the tempo up with my mouth, too, running my tongue up and down him and sucking him hard. After a few minutes his hips jerk up and with a muffled cry since his mouth is full of dick, he shoots down my throat. I suck every last drop from him and a few seconds later my own orgasm hits and he returns the favor. I carefully roll off him and while I lie there sucking air and trying to catch my breath, it hits me he’s no longer on the bed. When I turn my head our eyes meet. He’s near my desk, tugging his clothes back on.
That was completely intense and probably the hardest I’ve ever come in my life. But at the same time, inside it doesn’t feel so great. Because as soon as he shoves his feet in his shoes, he’s gone, barely muttering a goodbye on his way out my bedroom door. I’m barely done swallowing and he leaves me here, bare-ass naked, trying to catch my breath.
What the fuck just happened?
I feel hollow, like a vital piece of me is missing.

This eveningmy head is still spinning. Nathan and Lily are down the road having an early dinner with some friends, so I have to pick Rylee up at Maggie’s again and find us both something to eat. I tried to call Dacen a few times earlier after he left, but he didn’t pick up. I’m so frustrated right now I could rip my hair out. I will see him later though. After Lily and Nathan get home I’m heading over to his house. I’d managed to get at least that much of a reply from the last text I sent him.
Rylee jumps into the truck and I run through the first fast-food place we come to because it’s the fastest and the easiest. “No grease on the seats,” I remind her as I hand her over the bag. She rolls her eyes and nods, then munches on fries on the way home.
When we’re a few houses away, a car in front of our house catches my attention. It’s not Lily’s, and Nathan drives a truck. A cold, sharp feeling crawls down my spine as I pull into the driveway and park. Every single muscle in my body freezes when I glance in the rearview mirror. Bile rises in my throat and I have to swallow multiple times to force it back down.
“Rylee, go inside. Eat your dinner. I’ll be in soon.”
She gives me a funny look and then turns to stare at the car parked in front of the house. She doesn’t recognize the person in the front seat, thankfully. She faces me again. “What’s going on, Ryne?
“Just fucking do what I said,” I snap out. Her face falls and she grabs her bag and the food and stomps into the house. I know I’m a dick for snapping at her but I’ll deal with that later. I’m just trying to protect her. Once she shuts the front door I take a few deep breaths, then text Nathan. He calls back immediately, but I toss my phone aside, get out of my truck, and walk over toward the car. The window rolls down when I stop beside it.
