I nodded. “I do.”
“Come on.” He winked at me. “I’ll race you, you broken donkey.”
He took off out of the room, Ellis whooping loudly and giggling as they left.
“Only a broken donkey because you kidnapped me,” I muttered, grabbing my crutches.
But I couldn’t keep the smile off my face. For once, I was glad to be kidnapped.
Maybe Cole’s craziness was contagious.

KLAUS
Iyawned and looked over at my phone as it buzzed on my bedside table. It was late, and I was just getting settled in for the night. Anson and Evan had gone to bed together hours ago, while I’d stayed up going over some reports for work. We’d spoken to Rosalie and Ellis before dinner, but that seemed forever ago now, and Rosalie had seemed distracted.
I was concerned.
“Hummingbird,” I murmured, answering her video call.
“Klaus,” she replied softly.
“Where are you, my sweet?”
“Bathroom. Bubble bath, specifically.”
“Oh?” I perked up a little. “And you decided to bring me?”
She smiled. “Yeah. Evan texted and said he was going to bed with Anson because they both have early days. They said you might still be up. I took my chances.”
“I do love a gambling woman.” I smiled at her. “How are you?”
She sighed. “I’m OK.”
“Liar. Talk to me.”
She nibbled her bottom lip for a moment. “I want to talk to you about something.”
“Sounds serious. Should I put on my pants?”
“You’re always naked.” She laughed softly.
“Mm, hoping you’d call, baby. Talk to me.”
She blew out a breath. “I talked to Cole today. I-I think I want him to join us.”
I was quiet and swallowed. “Oh?”
She nodded. “He loves Ellis. She loves him. They’re like the same silly person…”
“Babe, he kidnapped you.”
“Because he loves me.”
I rubbed my eyes. I wasn’t a fan of the guy at all, but I also loved Rosalie more than I could ever convey in words. I was just grateful she let me be part of her world.
“Are you sure? He’s a walking red flag holding red flags.”
