“By constantly moving logs around the back yard?” Cece asked in a defeated tone.

“Maybe, if that’s what it takes at first,” Briggs said.

“I know I keep asking this, but are you sure, really sure, you want to deal with this with me?” Cece asked. “If we’re not together, there won’t be extra magic to control.”

“I want this,” he said. “Trust your mate.”

“I trust you. I love you,” she said.

“I love you too.”

“Okay, I guess we just have a bunch of sex so I can practice controlling the magic?”

He grinned at the hopeful tone in her voice. “I guess so.”

“We should start right now,” she said.

“Sure, but there’s one more thing we need to talk about first,” Briggs said.

“What’s that?” She was studying his chest, and he could smell her lust.

He immediately had a semi, and he forced himself to focus. “We’ve had sex twice without a condom.”

Cece’s cheeks turned pink. “Right. Um, my tests are all negative.”

“Mine too,” Briggs said. “Are you on birth control?”

“Yes,” she said.

His bear was immediately grumbling that there was no chance his mate carried his cub, but he would get over it. Briggs would love it if Cece were pregnant with his cub, but he would prefer it to happen when she wanted to be pregnant and when her life wasn’t in immediate danger.

“Okay, well, I’m good with not using a condom, but if you’d rather we use them, I will,” Briggs said.

“My preference is without,” Cece said quickly. Her cheeks flushed a deeper pink, and she suddenly wouldn’t meet his gaze.

“Cece?” he said. “Why are you being weird?”

She sighed. “Shit. I am being so weird. Okay, this, too, will sound super weird, but you need to know the truth because it makes me a shit person to keep it from you.”

“Keep what from me?” he asked.

“So, I’m good with not using a condom because I know it feels better for you without, but that’s not the main reason I don’t want to use one.”

“Okay,” he said slowly. “What’s the main reason?”

She mumbled something so quietly he couldn’t hear it. “Sorry, what?”

Her face now a bright red, she said, “Your seed increases my magic.”

He raised an eyebrow at her, and she said, “I know it sounds ridiculous, but it’s true, okay? Everything I’ve read about this stupid conduit thing says that a conduit’s, um… semen gives a witch an even bigger boost of magic. And apparently, my magic knows this because even if you’d brought out a condom last night or this morning, I’m pretty sure I would have ripped it in half and then just jumped bareback on you. Once we start having sex, the need to have you, um, come in me is incredibly intense.”

They sat in silence for a few seconds before Briggs said, “So, what you’re saying is I have magical cum.”

Her jaw dropped, and he winked at her. She started to laugh and, holy fuck, he would never get tired of hearing her joy.

“Oh my God,” she said between fits of laughter, “now you sound like Maisie. She called it magical cum, too.”

“Nice,” he said before holding out his fist. She bumped it, and immediately the sweet scent of wildflowers lingered in his nose. “What if the conduit is a woman?”
