The guy was currently running our IDs, and we’d been ordered to sit down and shut up. Eli was right: This wasn’t my first time in the back of a cop car, but that meant I’d learned when I was truly in trouble. Being shirtless didn’t lead to public indecency. Yes, Eli’s release was plastered across his front, but that stain could have been anything.

At least, that’s what I’d told the cocky-as-shit rookie. I knew his type: fresh out of the academy, drunk on the power, not realizing that nothing he said was going to stick.

But I understood why Eli was nervous. It was clear that we came from different backgrounds. His eyes were shut, head dropped back against the seat. He’d stopped shifting, but his leg still bounced, rattling the cuffs against the plastic.

“Eli, relax.”

“Easier said than done.”

“Baby, look at me.”

Eli’s pretty hazel eyes shot open, head snapping in my direction. He opened his mouth, but seemed to think better of what he was about to say. Perfect. I had him exactly where I wanted him, and despite surface-level logic telling him to argue with me, deep down, he trusted me.

“I know you’re scared,” I said softly. “But I’m telling you, he’s just trying to intimidate us. If he truly had something to take us in on, we wouldn’t have been sitting here for the last half hour. Can you take some deep breaths for me?”

As I suspected, Eli listened. He closed his eyes again, breathing in through his nose and out through his mouth a few times. Slowly, his leg stilled, and when he reopened his eyes there was less fear there. “Why do I trust you?”

“I can’t answer that. But you do, and I can help you.” My fingers itched to brush that aggravating curl out of his eyes. “I promise, we’ll be out of here soon and I can get you home.” The squirming started up again. “Are the cuffs too tight?”

He shook his head. “No. I mean, I don’t think so.” He huffed out a nervous laugh. “I have to pee.”

Smiling, I shuffled closer. “We’ll be out of here soon.” I leaned in, nipping at his earlobe. “Should I distract you?”

Eli shivered, tilting his head to expose his neck to me. I accepted the invitation, dotting a trail of soft kisses up his sensitive skin.

“We almost got caught once already,” he complained.

“But we didn’t. I’m too good for that to happen.”

“Oh, are you?” He chuckled.

“Mmhmm. I could prove it to you.”

“With your hands bound behind your back?”

“Wouldn’t be the first time.” I let my breath wash across his skin.

“Christ,” he strained. He peeked over his shoulder to where Officer Fuckface paced, talking on his phone. “This isn’t a good idea.Youaren’t a good idea.”

I glanced down at his lap and smirked. He was hard again. “Why don’t you shove the angel on your shoulder to the side?” Another kiss behind his ear, and he moaned. “Let the devil take control for a while.”

“Zach…”

“That’s it, sweet boy. Keep saying my name like that.”

“Oh, fuck.” He cracked his eyes, gazing down at my crotch. “You’re still hard.”

I slid down in the seat, widening my legs to make room. “My pants are still undone too.”

Eli worried his bottom lip, eyes bouncing from my face to my lap. Indecision flickered in his eyes.

The door swung open and Eli yelped.

“What are you two up to?” the cop demanded.

“Just passing the time, officer. How much longer is this going to take, anyway?”

“It takes as long as it takes,” the rookie snapped. “I’m waiting on my superior.” He moved to close the door.
