“This is Specs, Victoria. We are both here as tech people, and we want you to help us figure out what the hell is going on with this up-and-coming senator.” Delta sets a laptop on the table along with Specs.
“I’m the tech man for Raging Barons MC. I’m a full brother, as you can tell, and I’ve done some digging already.”
“Let me get my laptop,” I respond and head to the bedroom where I kneel and grab a box from under the bed. I take out the laptop and quickly head back to the kitchen.
Delta has cleared away all the mugs from the old ladies and made fresh coffee for all three of us. She’s also placed a glass of water and two pain tablets by my seat.
“Thank you, Delta.”
“You are welcome, Victoria. I know they can be a bit much. They seem to have lost their filters.”
I can’t hold back the giggle, and Specs chuckles before shaking his head. “You need to try living in the same place as them for more than a few days. Along with Meat and Star, they are all stark raving crazy.”
“Okay, let’s get down to it.” Delta is tapping on her keyboard already. “I found that your friend Bethy’s brother is the start of the issue. He’s owing a substantial amount of money to this so-called up-and-coming senator. I say he’s a crooked piece of shit that needs to be stopped before he gets into the Senate. Art, the brother, told this Joe asshole that you are a computer wizard and you could do some fiddling of moving money around.”
“Yes, that is why they approached me. I turned them down and then the threats started,” I reply as I tap on the keyboard of my laptop to show them what I have on Joe Tizwald.
“I have a trail that was fairly well hidden of cash that they have moved to an account in the Caymans. It is from something illicit you can bet your life on that. But what?” Specs mumbles as he keeps tapping.
“Hang on, let me get my backup phone.” I again rush to the bedroom and grab my spare phone that I always keep in case my other is lost.
Back in the kitchen Specs asks, “Why do you have a backup? Where is your phone?”
I sigh, “I had my phone in my hand when I went into the river to save the boy. But I had to let go of it when I went under to find him. Hence, the phone is at the bottom of the river. It’ll be useless now.”
“Yeah, that would do it,” Delta grins.
Tapping out a message to Bethy before I make the call. The last thing I want is her brother to know I’m speaking with her.
Victoria: Bethy are you free to talk?
It takes only a minute before I receive a reply.
Bethy: No, but you can text.
Victoria: Where did Art’s debt come from?
Bethy: Gambling.
Victoria: He told them about me. For what? Money laundering?
Bethy: Yeah, and to get information about Joe Tizwald’s competitors. You know the others running for the Senator position.
Victoria: Okay. Delete the message. Are you able to get away yet?
Bethy: No, but soon.
“That was my friend, Bethy. She confirmed Art’s debt is from gambling. Joe Tizwald wanted me to cover up money laundering and find shit on anyone that stands against him. Maybe I should find his shit and give it to the other one?” I mumble, more to myself than Delta and Specs, but when they both laugh I look up from the keyboard.
Delta smirks. “That is one good idea. Let’s do that.”
Two hours later I’m sitting on the couch, legs tucked up and a throw over them. A hot drink in one hand and a book in the other. Jack had arrived just before Delta and Specs left, and he is now sitting in an easy chair facing the window. Why I don’t know because it’s not like I’m on the first floor.
My goodness, this book is raunchy. It makes me blush a little while reading it. Jack is staring out of the window like his life depends on it. But I can now imagine he doesn’t want to watch my expressions as I’m reading this.
“Have you read Jo’s books?” I ask Jack.
“Yeah, I think everyone has. The brothers with a woman act out the darn things when they are released. Sometimes it’s morethan obvious the way they all walk the next morning.” Jack laughs out loud, and I can see he’s enjoying the memories.
