Once we are back with the truck, and Meat, along with Jack have thrown all the bodies inside the cabin, the cans of gas are poured and the place is lit. Rubbing his hands together, Jack gives me a huge smirk. “Okay, let’s see about where to go next. You need to check on your laptop who is most likely to look for Tizwald and cause trouble.”
Sitting in the back of the truck, laptop open, I’m searching for everyone that may have a dirty connection to Tizwald. I’ve contacted Delta, and she is telling me we all need to head to Gordonsville where old man Sterndale lives. He was once a senator, now retired on his extensive property, drinking expensive whiskey and doing dirty deals with people like Tizwald. Well, he’s next on our list.
I fill in Winter and Jack, but not Star as she had stayed with her man. I’m not sure if we’ll meet up with them again or if they’ll head back to the compound. Or should I say treehouse!
“Okay, are you two wanting to chase up this Sterndale asshole or what?” I ask, and when I see the look on Jack’s face I cringe, but it’s telling me he will put his lesson to the test.
I sleep a while as we are traveling, but every now and again I hear Winter and Jack quietly speaking. They are discussing how they are going to get into the building, which I’d found on Google Earth and handed my laptop to Winter to check out. I nod back to sleep while they work out what is going to happen. Me! I’ll just do what I’m told.
Someone shaking me wakes me, and quickly opening my eyes and sitting upright, I stare at Winter. “We’re here and we’re going to have a drink and something to eat. Wait until it’s dark enough to sneak in and sort the asshole out. Now come on, eat some of this junk we have.”
“Do you have a plan?” I ask as I take a bottle of water and a bag of chips Jack is holding out to me.
“Yeah, we have a plan,” Winter pulls me down and we’re sitting on the grass with our backs to the truck. “We need to get in and get out quickly.”
“Just follow us, or you can wait at the truck?” Jack is looking at me closely. Waiting for my response and I nod before answering.
“I’m coming. You’re not leaving me here wondering what is going on. With my luck somebody will turn up and that’ll be me done for.”
Winter chuffs as she chokes on her water. “When we get back, you are going to come to the range and I’m going to toughen you up. More weapons training and more hand-to-hand. We may have to get you in a gym yet to get rid of any flabby bits your tee may be hiding.”
Jack chokes on his water, but laughs once he can.
“Flabby bits? Flabby bits! You cheeky shit. I don’t have any flabby bits. I may not be as hard-muscled as you lot, but I’m not damn flabby.” I snort with disgust at her comment.
Jack and Winter high-five each other, and that’s when I know I’ve been had.
“Is Star coming?” I ask and look at Winter who has a smirk on her face.
“Nope,” popping the P sound, “Meat and Star are going to look at another one that needs to be spoken to. Meat has the information on that one, then we may meet up again later.”
Seems the conversation is over as both Winter and Jack lean back and close their eyes. I wait until I get further instructions or something untoward happens.
